How to get the most hp out of my stock 2g

yeah so ive have my 97 eclipse gs for about 6 months and im only 17 i dont have the budget to afford a complete turbo swap so what are some engine mods i can do right now to get the max hp out of my engine
eclipse 2.0l frontwheel drive non turbo

Basic bolt-on's mostly. Even if you had the budget for a turbo, you wouldn't want to put one in without freeing up the air flow a little with an exhaust, and pop an intake on. Basically, turbo or not, you're going to follow the same type of upgrades first. Check the tech guide for your car to give you some ideas.

I know a set of Camshafts is also good HP out of the box, especially for the non-turbo.

Also, if you meant "Turbo Swap" as in... swapping in a stock Turbo Motor... this is not recommended. It is a lot of work, you can search the forums for this question its been asked about a thousand times. A turbo kit for your car would be the best bet, which means you will also need Fuel and Engine Management to tune.

Get a 3" exhaust system and intake. Then try not to get pulled over in the process. Being 17 puts a target squarely on your back for cops. Trust me on that one...

When I owned my talon esi I found a intake, header, and exhaust was not a bad way to start.

If you get headers I would suggest 4-2-1 or else you'll lose a fair amount of low end

the stock 2.25 is fine too.. u dont need to upgrade to 2.5 (unless you intend on turboing or spraying nitrous down the road the 2.25 is more than enough)

just remove your cat and you'll be feeling a difference (without spending that much $$$ )

I have to disagree with you... somewhat. 2.5 has long been considered the best exhaust for the NA, and even some turbos (much debate if a 3 is needed for turbo or not) A lot will depend how much he plans on doing, a simple exhaust with a stocker wont be much a difference, but the more he does over time, the 2.5 will come more and more in handy with the drafting.

Granted an exhaust on a stocker only gives 1-3 hp(whp of course), and thats about as much as you will get with removing the cat (via straight piping/test pipe, dont gut it, you will lose power)

i have 95 talon esi... my current mods are header, cold air intake, and 2-/2 catback. it does feel a little stronger but i still want more . i am currently working on a custom fabricated intake manifold of a total redesign.... cams are hopefully next, while working on intake

wtf??? dave hit it on the head "negative" ! yeah clearly ## still young and dont know much. OP if ## planning on making 400whp or more then u may want to go as big as 3" exhaust, until then 2.5" will do whatever u need it to.

those are somethings that camn make u go faster without a turbo OP.
