How should I tell a mechanic to check for crankwalk.
I want to know this since I'm going to check out a gst tommorow and plan to take it to a mechanic so I could be sure the car won't get crankwalk any time soon.

Hope that makes sence........
And while I'm there should I tell him to check the compression too??? :D
I need to know this asap, thx. :| :D

cool. Thx, that helped a lot. Do you know much time approximatly is needed to do that?

k thx. I was expecting like 30mins or so. :thumb:
If the mechanic sais that everything is alright does that mean that the car won't ever get crankwalk? How about if he sais that it's moving around only a little bit (or will he give me some number and I'll have to figure out how bad the problem is on my own)?

If he's a decent mechanic, he should know what spec is.

Just because a crank hasn't already walked doesn't mean it never will, unfortunately. If it has more than 60-80K miles, and it hasn't already walked, it's unlikely that it will.

Argg..why does this come up so much? Crankwalk is the least of your worries, it should'nt even be on your mind.

better chance your car will fall off the lift when hes checking it

A good mechanic would know exactly what you mean by "check for end play on the crank" and will know exactly what to do to check it. you dont need to tell him anything about crankwalk or any of the stuff. when I checked my 93 tsi after experiencing symptoms of CW, didnt need a micrometer, I needed a tape measure ROFL
you could grab the crank pulley and actually bang the crank around inside the block.

dont worry about it so much, but having someone check the end play is a good idea if it makes you feel better inside
