How to Disable Factory Alarm on a 1G?

Well I bought my new 91 awd and learned two new things I've never known about DSM's.

1. Some 1g's came with a factory CD player

2. Those same 1g's also came with a factory alarm system.

The previous owner said that the alarm was going on and off randomly a couple days before it stopped cranking over. On the FEW threads that I've found concerning 1g alarm systems it seems like they're tied into the ignition or starter somehow and will prevent the starter from turning over if the alarm "says so" .

So does anyone know how to disable this thing so I can crank the car over and see if it starts?

I have the same issue on my 91 talon. Never knew they had them. i figured out it is hooked to the power door locks. I pulled the fuse and seemed to get rid of the alarm, but the light still lights on the dash so not sure it it is gone or not

You should know that there are 4 sensors that the "anti-theft" system monitors - the Door switches, the hood switch, and the hatch switch. The Door switches are wired into the anti-theft system - a poor ground will help "neutralize" the system, I know about that one.

The hood switch is located on the passenger fender near the stock upper IC pipe location - looks like the door switch. The hatch switch is built into the latch and could possibly be swapped out with one from a car that didn't have the system.

If you want to remove the system, IIRC the anti-theft box is located in the passenger side foot well, but I don't have my FSM near me to see which "box" it is.

On a side note, not all Anti-Theft cars came with the premium CD player option. Mine came with the premium 9-band EQ Cassette/Radio.

IIRC if you have a awd with sunroof you have an alarm..

Well I pulled the door lock fuse and while I was under there I also saw a fuse for "anti-theft", so I pulled that too. Still won't try to crank. Got out and checked the hood switch and all seems to be fine. I couldn't find a switch for the hatch though, so that has me curious.

Anyway I haven't even checked the starter so I should probably try that next. I have a spare one from my parts car thankfully.

put your key in the drivers door and unlock it with the key. That's how to disarm and when you lock the car with the key it activates the factory alarm.

I went crazy when it went off the first time because I have an aftermarket alarm installed also. I reached under my bumper and pulled the wires for the horns because I didn't know how to turn it off the first time.

Well the car was locked when I went to pick it up, and I unlocked it with a key, so I don't think that'll help me. Thanks for taking the time to try and help though.

The switch is part of the physical latch, not a plunger-style like the hood/door switches. You'll have to pull the interior panels away to get at it, at least that's what the FSM shows.
