A chip on my ECU is pretty corroded from a capacitor busting, so my question is does anyone know how to clean off the terminals without desoldering/resoldering the chip back into the ECU?

jiffy bath. or any other similar cleaner :)just spray it on, jiffy bath leaves a residue that's supposed to protect. other kinds just dry off within about 2 or 3 seconds. check radio shack or any computer supply store. or a car audio shop should have something.

That would be interesting to see. I can tell you the corrosion doesn't just wash off and usually there is repair work needed to fix the places where the electrolyte etched through the copper. Some places are easy to see, others require a magnifing glass to find. I usually wind up metering all the suspect places.

i use it at work all the time. people drop alarm remotes in the pool or the ocean, and they are all corroded. spray it off and the corrosion disappears and they work again. same thing with radios that i've had to put in boats. never had a problem.

if the corrosion is from caps leaking or something, i can forsee a problem, though it still should clean it off. jsut make sure that cap is replaced. but if it's just from moisture in the air or whatnot, it should work just fine.

The ECUs have a conformal coating to protect them from moisture in the air unfortunatly it just lets electrolyte wick underneath and eat the copper and solder.
