Sup guys,

I did a search on this but came up with mixed results. Being that its my first time I want to make sure I get it right. I recently drained some trans fluid and noticed some kind of grany substance which prompted me to want to change the fluid. Can someone give me some precise instructions on how to change the trans fluid on a "AUTOMATIC 2.4 ENGINE", also is it necessary to change the filter? Does anyone have a link with possible diagrams on how to do this? Can I use GM/Penzoil Synchromesh fluid on a auto transmission?

btw, is it normal to have those grany material in the trans fluid?

Thanks

I recommend paying a trans shop to flush and adjust it. They will get all the fluid out, including what you'd miss in the torque convertor in your driveway.
I agree. Get it flushed by a shop. You'll pay more now, but it'll last longer. Check out transdude's FAQ on this site on how to prolong your transmission also.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

1.How much is a flush?

2.Will they change the filter?

3.Is it normal to find grainy materials when draining your trans fluid?

4. Will a flush be able to completely remove this grainy material?

btw, I heard that sometimes a tranmission acts up one you perform a transmission flush, how true is that?

Once again thanks

It's true depending on how old the fluid that's in there is.

If you go in for a transmission service that change fluid/filter/flush.

No idea how much they cost. Never paid for one.

You've got magnets in your tranny pan. You'll find they're covered in metal flakes. So the grains are normal.

Goto a good shop and ask them if they recommend a tranny flush. If they say yes, then leave. If they get detailed then go to them.

I had a flush, filter and fluid replacment 2 weeks ago at Cottman's for $74. The best part is that they can test it for crap that you would never think of.

The tech happened to find a bad wheel bearing in the rear passenger side. I replaced the bearing and now the car runs smoother.

Definately the way to go. Don't mess with your tranny unless you know what you are doing.

I know this is a very old post but how hard is it to flush yourself? Get 15 or so quarts, get a big ass bucket, start the car warm it up, take the cooler return line loose put the car in N and keep filling till you have ran about 10 quarts in it. Hook the line back up drain the pan change the filter and done. And yes if you are going to change the fluid flush it completly. You will only get out about 4.5 quarts draining the pan. which leaves about the same amount in the cooler lines a converter. At least this way you'll know what fluid your using who know what the shop is going to use.
