Ok,
I have a 2g head on a 1g block. surprisingly, the head bolts went right on no problem (I've read that it was supposed to be bored out 1mm). anyway, the concern I'm having now is that I can literally lift the head off of the block when the bolts are completely tightened down. The movement is very slight (~3mm), but it still worries me.

anyone have any insight?

its obviously not on there right if you can move it.start with basics:sure its tightened down, washers on the bolts, headgasket actually installed,etc..

obviously I did that.

the reason I'm asking is because of the 1gblock/2ghead combo. could it be that the 2g head bolts are longer than 1g? that would be a good reason...

anyone know?

Typically, a hg can range from .038-.065". 3 mm is roughly .120" or close to 1/8". I dont know of any difference in head bolt length. 1 g 7 bolt uses the same head as a 6 bolt but the same bolts as a 2 g 7 bolt so it wouldnt work if there was a length difference. Did you chase the treads before you installed the bolts? Was there any oil or water in the bolt holes before you installed the bolts? If there was any debris or anything in the holes, the bolts will seem torqued before it is threaded all the way in.
