How noisy are the walbro fuel pumps?

I'm going to be ordering an injector seal kit and thought I'd order a walbro 190 along with the kit. They're pretty cheap and just about every one seems to have one. I hear that it's pretty noisy. But, how noisy is it? Is it very anoying? Does it drive you crazy? Will you hear it even with the radio on at a moderate level? Should I stop asking questions and just get a denso pump?

I'm not sure if this will help, but I have a Walbro 255 and I barely notice it unless I'm listening for it. An aftermarket exhaust at idle is more intrusive in my opinion, and with the radio on at a moderate level I cant hear my pump if I try. Outside the car it seems to be a little easier to hear, but I kind of like the sound...

Thank you for the fast reply. I don't mind the noise as long as it doesn't interfere too much with my stereo. I already have a 3" tanabe exhaust that is pretty loud. I take it the pump won't be any worse. I do have a silencer though.

i had a walbro 255 that i rewired in my old 90 tsi awd and that was one loud SOB! very whiny. like a high pich ping

On an awd, The fuel pump is in the trunk, You get to it right through the top. I can here mine because I have a gutted hatch, I like the sound
On my old fwd, I had to put the fp in underneat the car, I coulden't hear it at all.
I can only hear mine at idle though, Not while i'm driving or have my music up.

I'm FWD and I can't hear the pump at all. I did hear however, that Walbro re-designed there pumps so they wouldn't be so loud. I'm pretty sure this is the case since a buddy of mine just installed his into an AWD and you can't hear it at all.

You 1g guys are lucky bastards. I've got the whiner in the back seat. I wish I could stick it in the trunk, where all whiny backseat passengers should go. It's really not annoying unless you listen for it, or turn your head a certain way and catch the sound the right way. Your ears learn to ignore that frequency after awhile.
Rewiring it should and will make it louder since it's working a little bit harder.

I have a Walbro 255 in my AWD inside the car I can only hear it when the radio is off and I am listening for it. While I'm driving the exhaust drowns it out. But when the car is on and I am standing outside of it you can hear that sucker humming pretty loud.

I got tired of listening to mine, and put in a denso pump from a 3000 GT VR4. Much quieter, like stock, and flows 180 LPH. 40 bucks on EBAY.

My rewired walbro 255 is very noisey. You can hear the whine over top of the exhuast, stereo etc and it changes pitch with the blinkers, makes for a nice little tune. I know this isnt the case for all of them, it seems to differ car to car. I dont notice it much anymore.

Hmm. I have an in-tank Walbro 255 high pressure pump in another car and the tank is situated between the hatch and rear seat, only accessible from under the car. You can faintly hear a low "mmmmmmmmmmmmm" sound in the car with the radio off if you really listen for it, outside the car slightly less difficult, but in no way obnoxious.

I'm curious if the pump designs from Walbro change between makes/models of vehicles which make them louder/quieter depending on the application, or if the position of / access to the tank makes a big difference on accoustics, etc. Is the 2G DSM pump an in-tank design as well or external? If it's external, then you should be able to insulate it with some foam rubber or something to try and dampen some sound, but if it's in-tank, then really it's just another one of the prices of performance that you have to live with.

yeah, u can hear it but it not annoying.

It's not bad, you'll get used to it and like most people said, if you have an exhaust then it'll be barely audible unless you try to listen for it. When I have my turn signal on though, the pitch will change like someone else mentioned...but it doesn't get any louder.

Mine came with the car... I honestly didn't notice the whine for almost a week, then freaked out trying to track it down, thinking that a bearing was going out somewhere.

And no, it's pretty quiet. Just when you're standing out next to the gas fill door do you really hear it clearly. Dunno about the turn signal thing; never noticed it, myself.
