Does about 8-10k in mods (new parts) sound right for a fwd gst to achieve 11's? This is a 95 btw. Really want a race car and i like this car but needs a crapload of work done b4 my goal.

This is a n00b question, way too open ended and way too sudden. slow down young grasshopper, your time will come, observe, and then ask questions

well i kno a basic answer to this......there's only one way to find out how much it takes to run 11's(not to metion tuning etc..) :thumb:

No you dont want a race car you are always working on. Look at realistic goals and work twards them. Build something you can drive year round that is relyable. Look at it this way its better driveing your car 12 second passes all day than having a 11 second track car that is dificult to drive on the street because that new race motor/ clutch and big asss turbo makes power 4500 and above and always needs attention. Build your car for heavy duty street and not the track you will be much happyer with your out come.
It takes alot more money and time than you think trust me. What happens when the trany breaks but you are out of money because you needed to have that stage 4 head. See were I am getting at.

Yes but if i had a dedicated race car i wouldn't have to worry about breaking things. It just seems like it's going to take a lot of work just to make it run 8's in the 1/8 mile. But i know this is the cheaper route than buying a race car, but if the race car breaks I can still get to work the next day. I know this is open ended and yes i'm in a hurry to run 11's, been wanting such a thing forever, but always wasted my money on daily drivers instead of building a race car.

I would have to say that if you wanted a race-only car, you need to trade up to the GSX. With all the AWD cars kicking ass on the 60ft times, you're just going to be running behind all the time.

11's and having a FWD vehicle dont belong in the same sentence. well, at least not a daily driven car. 11's in a DD is very hard to maintain.

but if you do decide to do it, i'd elect some sort of 50 trim or higher with supporting mods. the MOST IMPORTANT thing is the suspension in a FWD. quality suspension, a REAL LSD, drag slicks, and reinforced axles will do the job. but that right there is a total of 3k or so..

good luck, and go by the tuning guide here

*edit* i say this with the upmost love for my car, but FWD sucks my ass when it comes to drag racing  I love my tsi because its a great DD with some balls to back it up, but i'd trade her anyday for a 1g awd if i really wanted a true dragstrip only car.. but thats my .02

Hahah thank you blcknspo0ln.... Its touching to know FWD suck balls in 1/4 :laugh: ... I am working on it right now... Will you have a 11 sec car on the street? have fun... Mine is planned on a 11 seconds on the track, on the street will be low-mid 12s. Reason is I am not rich and can't buy tires and axels every week ^^;;;

with 8K? hrmmm maybe... if you go cheap route... But I got the EBC so i can raise and lower my boost whenever I decide to use it. With my AFC II I can also store fuel maps for different boost levels street/track usage. Those 2 pieces of electronics cost me near 800. But hey this is for my daily drivability...

But I say pace yourself, get a 50 trim(AGP Kit $1700, RNR $900? a.k.a king of pump gas) or a 20g ($900-950, BTW more top end less wheel spin) should be the turbos you are looking for, 660 injectors ($400) with 255 lph fuel pump($110) with rewire. FWD wants slicks on the track. And a LSD ($1000)

Note: get a quaife or a kaaz. from what most say the others are crap.

FMIC (ranges from $400-1050) ofcourse that means it ranges for size and work.
Intake (300 Dejon Tools baby, Maf-t $200)
Turbo back (Custom 3 inch $500 or non custom $800)
this is considering that you don't buy the AGP kit (Exhaust manifold port or Evo III ($200) port O2 sensor housing, or evo O2 sensor housing ($200))

Then you still have your suspension... Have fun...

Hell you can make a 11 sec run in less than 8k, set of slicks, bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors, pump, and enough nitrous to blow yourself and the track up. but then again your car might blow up but atleast you might hit 11s.

BTW: I have not included the price of gauges and dataloggers and other stuff you might want.

You want 11s in a 2G FWD for 8-10 and your new to this it's not going to happen easily. Look here: www.e-smithey.com

This guys is one of the better FWD 2G guys out there and it has taken hella money to make his daily driver an 11 second car. You will need slicks and you may or may not need the traction bar like smithey has.

As others here have pointed out, it can be done for the price range you mentioned, but only if you are careful about how much you spend. Don't get in a hurry, wait for the deals. Watch the classifieds section here religiously, and only buy when you find something you need at a steal.

To hit 11's you need around ~500 horse give or take. Which means around 30+ psi of boost. It's not going to be easy to make this last long at that kind of pressure. It would be far better to go with the plan of:

Build it until you are happy with it.

Only then are you going to be knowledgable about what it takes and what you've done.

DSMototsports ran 11s with $2002.

yeah i read about that, i really dont see how they do it even selling factory parts, unless he had a lot of hand me downs.

Exactly, I'm not seeing it either, unless they also all but completely stripped the car down.

But in any event, I'm another FWD guy who is telling you'd be better off with a GSX if that's the goal you want. On the street however(which is where 98% of my action takes place) I'm good with what I have, and I'm only making 292whp@ only 10 psi.

But honestly, I don't see 8-10k in mods(new parts) on ANY FWD car getting you into the 11s. I still wish you the best of luck though. :thumb:

:dsm:

There are 14b cars (AWD) in the 11's in the quarter....It all comes down to weight if you don't have money.

Some of them only have like 2-3 grand in the car....just fuel, intake, exhaust and thats about it for the spendage!!!

have fun with that thought...do a search last I heard the 10 fastest 14b street cars were all under 12.8

11's with 8k is very doable.

Even with the 2g body. It has been done and can be done again.

All of you AWD guys are so quick to shout it out. Answer the question at hand. You would be amazed at what a FWD with a quality suspension (coilover-adj shock), motormounts, quaife/Kaaz, and some good slicks will do for a RACE car. Which is what he is wanting to do.

It takes about 450+whp to do this in a nice fwd setup.

I am not downing Smithey or anything, but he has alot more in that car than is needed to run 11's. (If that is what he is running, I haven't been to his site in a long time.)

Hmmm, what up with this.

He is now AWD, it was before the complete conversion. I am running the same type of transmission. :p

I do not know Smithey or his driving habits. I am sure he is good at what he does. Maybe being FULL wieght is the problem. The guy in my post is faaaar from full wieght.
