im not here to start a debate on whats better or more power, im in the process of builing my engine and cant decide if i want to go all stock rods and pistons or aftermarket rods and pistons, mainly because of the money. i will be reving high and will have all supporting mods.

so what internals do you have with what mods, thanks:dsm:

My internals are good for 600 to the wheel and I while I don't come near that with my combination (no plans to), having them means that I can take tuning liberties with timing and air/fuel to try a few things that would trash cast parts. I tend to think of it as extra insurance and peace of mind.

Good luck Chuck,

Andy

Well it depends on what kinda tuning ability you have and what kinda power you want to make. If you are gonna be running a high boost application and making pretty decent amounts of power on a regular basis (+450whp), then you might want to consider forged internals. If you are running simple bolt on turbos and looking for 300-450whp, stock 90 parts should suit you well.

On a sidenote, I have seen stock 6 bolt internals make well over 450whp.

Check my profile for current info!

I had a gt35R setup on 22psi. On the street tune, 140,000+ miles I was making over 400 whp, and trapping 126 mph (pump gas)

I don't know exactly what you're looking for but there are a few stock bottom end 6 bolts that made over 550whp and at least one stock bottom end 7 bolt that did the same. I'll see if I can dig up one of the threads.

i know the stock 6bolt is easily capable of handling the power, im just curious to see how many ppl pushed the stock internals and how many people go with forged internals. i have a 57trim turbo and want to put it to use as much as possible, i would like to make 450whp and as far as my tuning skills, not great. so much comes into play with aftermarket pistons, i know i would go with weisco, but then what ratio is the hard part, ive been considering 9:1. I would like to keep the stock internals but there is that peice at mind that i need, and know my luck something will go wrong, so if im going to do it, why not go bigger, but then money becomes an issue.

Since your aim is 450whp range I would just go forged to have the peace of mind that you could go more if you so pleased. As far as pistons, the 9:1s will have a quick off boost feel to them. If you want stock internals then go with 1G rods, and 2G pistons, and fasten it all down with arp rod bolts, and head studs. you will have to have the pistons machined to fit the 1G "BIG RODS".

I think 450whp would be out of your turbo's range, according to the compressor map it flows very similar to an Evo 3 16g. It seems like using forged internals would be a waste of money at that level.

Dynoed over 350 with stock 7 bolt internals, blew up next dyno run after that.

So far I've only pushed my 6 bolt with forged internals to 420 on the dyno@24 psi. Pushed it a little further than that on the track before.

so your saying my turbo isnt too much better than the evo as far as power wise? i dont plan on doing other power mods after this for quite some time, so maybe stock or 1g big rods would be fine.

154,000mi stock oem 7 bolt...made 578hp. SC61 @ 33psi. Dsmlink 58lbs/min of airflow, 1000cc injectors, methanol inj, JMF SMIM, 272's.....100% stock oem bottom end + pistons. Only had a mitsu 4 layer + arp head studs for peace of mind of high boost. It lasted for over 200+ pulls at over 30+psi of boost, she finally died on a 38psi spike, rod went right out the block (have pics if your interested). Tuning is key too keeping things together. I only ran 20W50 valvoline VR1 non-synthetic oil in it.

I did 430awhp on a dyno dynamics @ 23psi.
Later at the track I went to 27psi, and trapped 130mph. That probably around 500awhp.

Rebuilt 6 Bolt Block with 1G Mitsu Rods, re-used original Mitsu Rod Bolts, Mitsu 2G 8:5:1 Pistons ~ B.S. Eliminated ~ Stock 1G Head w/ 3G lifters ~ Dual Springs ~ Tit-retainers ~ FP2x Cams ~ Mitsu 4 layer head gasket ~ ARP head studs

346 awhp on stook bottom end and head just arp head studs, afc neo, injectors and 255hp fuel pump and no fpr.
on pump gas, like every one said you can really push your stock bottom end till a high hp range as for my self ill rather have peace of mind and rather have all the supporting moods and only be making 450hp on a 550hp set up then pushing a 250hp set up to a 450hp range and thinking my car will blow up any giving day

just my 2cents.

but like said befor stock 6 bolt can handel well over 400 if your getting fuel and your tunning is great
good luck

danny..
