I have a 92 awd tsi with eagle h-beam rods and forged wiesco pistons without main or head studs, not sure what head gasket. I want to upgrade to a bigger turbo but not sure what path to take. I also already have a 255lp fuel pump. There are mainly only 1/8 mile tracks around my location. How much boost will my stock turbo hold or produce???

Why would you put together a block with forged pistons and rods and not put better head studs in? Those are really going to be your limiting factor in how much boost you can run. Well, that and your turbo, I'm not sure how efficient the 14b is up at the 20psi range, I'm sure it's reaching the edge though. At any rate get head studs before you put in a bigger turbo. Good luck.

I bought the car with the oil pan off for 200$ and I found out the who put the motor together to begin with and he mentioned the things i have listed. It could already have arp head studs, I had to have the crank machined and I installed a balance shaft elim. kit. I'm really not sure what I got just put the motor back in couple days ago and it didn't start so i got to figure out whats wrong.

Yeah your not going to want to push anymore than 18-20PSI without ARP's.

now i have to go look for reciepts to see if i had mine put in or if they are laying around somewhere........sheesh

If in doubt and the engine is assembled and in car or something, you can always pull the oil fill cap and look in their with a flashlight and see either a allen head bolt or a stud with a 12 point nut on it.

Pardon my ignorance. But which is the ARP? The allen or or the 12 point nut?

ARP will have a 12 point nut and a 5.5/5 mill hex in the top of the stud.

I have done 25 psi on stock head bolts and head gaskit, but i would not do it again because a 14b flow less then a 16g and a 16g flows way less then a 50 trim turbo.

What kind or fuel injectors and managment you got, You got a fpr?

Iwould do now more than 15, cause you dont have the mods or you dont have your mods listed in your profile so list em.

I'm running 23psi boost on a stock motor w/ 135k miles. I do worry about my head gasket though. So far no problems.

Just for the record, I thought I would share this with everyone. I have a friend who has a stock 6-bolt motor that he put into a Colt and converted to AWD. This motor and trans is out of a junk-yard car with 180k miles on it. The only thing he has done to the motor is pull the head and install a new head gasket and retorque the head tighter using the stock head studs. I believe he went to 110-120 ft-lbs on the head studs. Of course he replaced things like the water pump and timing belt as well as removing the balance shafts. He has upgraded the fuel system and runs VP C-16 with a big turbo using DSM link. He has been running the car for 2 years now with no issues at all while running 48psi of boost. Yes, that's right, I said 48psi!:D He runs the shit out of the car on a weekly basis. The car runs low 11's to high 10's and consistently traps 134-135mph. I know quite a few people running stock motors with stock head studs torqued down a little more and they seem to work well at holding high boost pressures. Just thought I might throw this out there for everyone. The 4G63 is the most capable motor built or stock and no one will tell me any differently. There is no other motor period that can handle 48psi on stock internals and I'll take that all the way to the bank.

whats the most i can expect out of the 14b turbo as far as 1/8 and 1/4 mile times of course it has alot to do with the driver and i've been told u shouldn't run over 16lbs of boost with this turbo...but it seems not to be a factor

Just cause i or someone else can does not mean everyone else can, not to mention your friend probably knows a good bit newman, does not know alot.

If you have a stock fuel pump 15 is the limit if you have a fpr and a 255 fuel pump you can get away with 15-25 psi on the 14b, i would not do more than 20 though as the 14b flows shitty compared to a 16g.

I would get some management to read your 02 , fuel, oil, boost, as well as a logger and a safc. Knock will become an issue with 15 + psi on the 14b on the stock side mount intercooler.

Honestly there is to much that simply cant be typed here you need to search and read.

Some have gotten 11's-16's depends on mods, i have done 26 psi on the 14b with the right mods. 23ish seems to be a good psi not to go over.

thanks alot for all the help and info i will start with the other things before i worry about the boost then
