How much horsepower on stock 1g pistons?

How much horsepower could new 1g pistons take. I'm thinking about buying a completely stock rebuilt motor (arp hardware equipped). I plan on throwing a GT12 or 60-1 at the car and I want to know if the 1g rods/pistons will take everything okay. I know it's in the tuning, I've got GM MAF, AFC2, and a burnt chip coming on the way.

400 is the major consensus for a 6bolt stock block. I have seen a little more on stock rebuild.

Honestly, I think that the 1G pistons can handle more tha most think. The 2G pistons have 8.5:1 compression and a higher silicon (sp?) content, but the 1G pistons are 7.8:1 with lower silicon content. Sure they can't take knock or heat well, but if you've got tuning down pretty close from the start, why wouldn't it be able to take the wrath of a 60lb./min. turbo? I'm pretty much set on running a GT12 (55lb./min.), extrude hone intake manifold, slightly ported head, and cams on the car daily driven on 15psi and at times driven on up to 30. If a stock 8.5:1 piston can take it, so can a stock 7.8:1 (I know it's a horribly vague statement). By the way, the motor would be using oem 1g pistons, no topline crap. To top it off it's sealed with a multilayer headgastket and arp head studs. I wouldn't mind spending the extra money getting a set forged pistons, but I'm buying the longblock complete, and the machine shop is going to charge me $250 just to swap the pistons, let alone try telling me the bearings and such are bad. Please excuse me if I come across as ignorant here, I'm just trying to get answers. Does anybody make, or has witnessed 500whp on stock internals?

probalby acheivable at the crank, with all other mods,
youve got a better shot at it with 1g pistons, than 2g pistons

I'm not going to try to put 500 to the ground, more around mid 400's (56trim, extrude hone intake, ported head, cams). Why wouldn't the 1G pistons be able to take that? The 2G pistons have a higher silicon level and higher compression, but it's nothing a little bit lower compression can't make up for right? I'm sure I can make that power, I'm just not sure if a oem rebuild could take it everyday. Does anybody else have any opinions?

In this case it all comes down to good and accurate tunning, as a matter of fact in case u didnt had in in your list, a wideband o2 sensor is your best bet for more accurate air/fuel readings thus better tunning.
I know its an expensive tool, but helps alot.

Just a friendly reminder.

right.. like everyone is saying, as long as your tuning is up to spec, the motor can take large amounts of horsepower... keep the knock as close to zero as possible and you should be able to get 400+... how much exactly is up to you and how much you're willing to go, obviously you'll be more prone to break stuff making that much power.
