How much downforce do yall think this will make? Is it too ricey?

I like this front bumper, it looks like it would really aid with cooling the brakes and intercooler. It also looks like it might add a little downforce too. Do yall think it would add a lil downforce? Is it too ricey?

I like that style. It kinda looks similar to the drifter style for the 1g. Im about to order one of those for mine. I had a vader but there is too much going on as far as curves and air inlets. But that one isnt crazy its more subtle. As far as downforce goes, I suppose it could add a little extra but unless your actually taking your car to a wind tunnel and testing it I dont think it will matter or make a difference. Yah know? Just my .02 cents.

:dsm:to each his own if you like it rock it but if you have to ask you probly dont like it that much yourself:dsm:

To most people a 2g with high rise is very ricey stock from the factory. I think you should do it because you are doing it for a performance benefit. Now if you were doing it for shear looks, yes you would be deemed a ricer, but since you are doing it for downforce and brake cooling, I think it sure does beat cutting up your stock bumper.

you can go with the RMM Spoiler and that should be enough ..

I really doubt that its going to creat enough downforce to make a difference to where he would even need it anyways. Really the only time aerodynamics comes into play as an actual factor is when you are doing toe to toe racing with formula 1 cars and such. But for all I know he very well could be. If your going to get it base it on looks because thats basically all it is. Just my measley .02 cents.

Lol. RICE! I highly doubt you need that for cooling. Look at a lot of hardcore auto x guys here. Do they have some gaping bumper like that? Didn't think so. And downforce? Read up, bud. That bumper won't do jack squat. Neither will that wing. Why? Because both of those are attached to parts of the car that flex. The bumper is so weak it'll flex before it'll aid in downforce, and the downforce that is created from that ricey wing is partially negated by the rubber weather strip that flexes underneath the hatch. Dude save your money. And better yet, look at real auto x guys and study from them. Not a picture from VIS.

On a side note, when I look at that car, I automatically assume that:

A. It's non turbo

or

B. The owner has absolutely no taste.

Thanks for the input fellas! Im gonna go ahead and get it because; 1) it's not too pricey $160 2) My front brakes overheat badly and I'v cracked the left one already, since I cant afford to get a brake system upgrade (yet) the large side vents should help to cool them a wee bit. When I get it I'm gonna do some custom molding to it (to slightly de-rice it), so ill post some pics of it when its done. ^_^

Yes, I think it is too ricey. How do you figure a bumper is going to cool your brakes? Sounds like you will better off putting your money elsewhere, like in the brakes.

+1. Get slotted rotors if you're planning to go this route, as drilled rotors have the tendency to crack sometimes.

Get better rotors maybe? If your willing to get a cheap bumper I bet you bought some cheap rotors too.

wow..ROFL

Don't dance around the problem, if you have brake overheating problems go with a new front brake setp. I highly doubt spending $ on a front bumper will fix the problem... You can pick up a pair of Brembo Rotors for $50 or so a piece online and get a nice set of pads for pretty cheap also.

IMO it sounds like you need an excuse to buy this bumper, but I wont tell :shhh: ha ha

A lot of the things said in this thread seem to be somewhat questionable and general statements based on speculation. You however just said a bunch of things that are just wrong.

First of all: aerodynamic aids can definately be incorporated on the bumper, and on the hatch as well. If you actually attach your bumper correctly (instead of using zip-ties) you will be able to apply a lot of force with minimal or no deflection. And do you think applying downward force on the decklid will do nothing? Try going to your car and pushing down on the hatch and watch your car squat. The hatch is supported by 'stoppers' and you will be able to apply a lot of force down on the decklid as well.

Secondly, do not study aerodynamics from autocross, this is not the area of racing that is most dependent on aerodynamics for success as they stay at relatively low speeds. So, again, bad advice.

Lastly, many people build their cars for different reasons, and if someone wants to put a different bumper on the car with aerodynamics in mind, they are already thinking in the right direction. Having 'no taste' is not something you can ever argue against; one person's opinion is just as valid as the next.

In my opinion, it is good that the OP has some awareness of aero, but looking at the bumper I do not see things being affected very drastically. In regards to the cracked rotor issue: I do not imagine you are cracking them due to extreme stress on a factory or upgraded rotor, but rather normal stress on a poor quality aftermarket rotor. After the brake rotor problem is corrected, it can't hurt to look into brake ducts. Although it will likely be totally unnecessary, it is a potentially beneficial idea.

Yeah, I'd probably spend your money on a set of larger GSX calipers & rotors... That was my first upgrade, and it made a huge difference :thumb:

I'd have to say that in my opinion that looks ricey.

Why spend as much money as most body kits cost on things to better the appearance of your car?

Why don't you spend that money on improving what's under the hood?

I'd say :notgood:,
save the money.

:talon:

as said many times its your car do what you want.... but also put that money into the brakes themselves this front bumper wont solve any problems. Also the drift bumper would provide more air flow
