I have a 96 rs with intake and exhaust. I want to get headers but my mom isnt to fond of me spending money on my car. But i have heard that several people noticed that there exhaust manifold was cracked when the went to put on headers. If my header is cracked i would be able to convince my mom that i need a replacment. SO, how many of you guys found you exhaust mani cracked when you removed the heat shield.

On mine I thought it may have been, so when I started to take it all off to put on my headers I saw that the third runner was cracked completely around. The heat sheild is so close that it is hard to tell sometimes without seeing the crack. Mine is a 90 so I don't know if that helps either.

I had a hole the size of a quarter right in the middle, not sure how my car was running. I would have never known if I didn't buy my header.

Just say they are cracked :p .

If she asks to show you, take her a spin in your car, tell her "listen, do you hear that" when any type of sound is made (any noise that may sound normal to us dsm owners) then be like "yes now do you beleive me?" and make her feel guilty for not beleiving you in the 1st place  .

But really, take her for a spin in your car, if you have a cai tell her that sound where the air is being sucked in is a cracked manifold :D

That might work if my dad wasnt a mechanic, my dad is all about me modding my car but my mom is against it, and that is who i live with. She would just have my dad look at it. But i might be able to get him to tell her that it is cracked. He has let me order things and have them sent to his house and never tell her.

Well if she doesn't know anything about modding cars then just buy the mods and install them at your paps place, she won't know what to look for on your car.

yea, but the only problem is her wondering where my money goes, and also getting my dad to be willing to hide it from her.

Drive it until it gets warm, ice cold water. Oops, I spilled some, enough said. No marks, new header! :thumb:

my mom's the same way.....yet i have managed to waste money on my car haha. Jus gotta be real sneaky, for example. For the exhaust, i told them gas conservative (lower idle) Same with the header. CAI helps the car breathe better so i would get higher mileage. told them my stock udp was f-ed up (it really was tho, it was eating the side of the belt) so satan charges $200 for a reg crank pulley and howell is 140$ for udp hmmm which did i choose? ;)

^^^LOL. My CAI was for the "gas mileage" and my exhuast was just for the sound.
