ok, i can't believe I'm asking this stupid ass question but here goes

how many fans are hooked up to the radiator (between radiator and engine) on a stock 2g GSX?

i just bought this car and i'm having a bit of a heat dissipation problem. Seems there should be 2 fans but I only have one.

please refrain from telling me how stupid I am. It's been a long day and I'm fully aware that i'm a few fries short of a happy meal today.

thanks guys

That sucks. I suppose you could still do it; you'd just need to run a wire across the engine bay, or along the firewall or something. I wasn't aware the 1g's used two different fuseboxes for the fans.

Yeah... Main fan relay is pass side by the bat; a/c fuses and relays are at the driver side/firewall corner.

Looks like I'll be studying some wiring diagrams and figuring out the hi/low a/c relay.

Ok,

So... I've got my aluminum radiator and my SPAL slim fans installed yesterday. (It was more work than it should have been, but oh well, that's just part of the fun)

Now my primary fan is not coming on but my AC fan is. Apparently the fan was not coming on before and I just didn't notice. I know I've wired the fan's correctly since the AC one comes on when I turn on the AC.

MY NEW QUESTION IS:

How does the engine turn on the primary cooling fan? I read that the 1g's have a temp switch at the bottom of the radiator. Is that the case with the 2g or does the ECU decide when to turn it on based on a reading from the temp sensor in my T-Stat housing?

p.s. I think this is the last bit of my heat problem. I seem to be running cooler on the highway and the AC is helping but not strong enough on it's own.

For a stock dsm, the cooling system is designed to function properly w/ jsut one fan running (the "primary" fan). But, I had run just the a/c fan (always on when ignition is on) as a "primary" fan for a while. Since I don't have a/c and it makes for easy turbo swaps.

If you run cooler w/ the ac on, then you definately have a "primanry" fan problem and that was the problem in the first place. Just wire it so that it comes on all the time if you're cheap like me. You'll get lower head/coolant temperatures that will fight off detonation/preignition better. My car LOVES having the 2 fans on all the time. I get spot on 195 degree coolant temps (good for timing advance). And the stock thermostat has plenty of control to raise flow to compensate for any spike in heat.

Since were on the FAN issue...
Im like the guy as well...
I just have my ac fan...Ive been reluctant to replacing it---but I WILL. My car isnt overheating or anything.

Anyone can give me an idea as to why my stock fan melted...LITERALLY...the actualy fan blades...MELTED.

I removed it. I now have another fan, but just havent replaced it. I also cant find the wires where it hooks onto...Sorry I hijacked the thread..
:)

have you removed your heat shields from the manifold/turbo ? if so then that might be why your fan melted.

haha, no worries about hijacking the thread man, that's why it's here, as it turns out that helped me

I don't have a heat shield on my mani and I'm gonna fab one up next time I'm at my dad's house with this car. I figured it might be bad for my fans as well as heat soaking my radiator.
