How Loud is crankwalk?

Man I got a noise that seems to be comming from the lower timing belt area and its LOUD AS HELL. I can start the car..rev it up shortly after starting and its fine and quiet..purrs like a kitten, i can even turn off the key..turn it back on a few seconds after that and get a good rev up with no tic for a few seconds. But after that few seconds this horrible clicking starts. It is loud from about 2000-4000rpm after that is apears to go away. Does it with or with out the clutch in.
I even removed my Powerstearing pump belt wich I thought was doing it..but it wasn't.
The car runs very well, besides some stange 1st gear lack of power after 4k but boost still rises..I suspect that is probably timming pull. 2,3 and up the car runs great.

I just got this car, didn't always tick. It has me worried a bit. I thought the belts were going to take care of it. How after mulling over the peculiarites it it I don't know. I have some shifting problems..but that is usually just notchy shifing and I know better than to shift into 1st unless I'm stopped or I get a 50/50 chance of grinding. no clutch problems.

I've been searching crankwalk and crankwalk FAQ in here and google. But to my amazment I've not had an easy time assembleing a list of concrete crankwalk symptoms..most stuff is people asking if they have it and no confirmation.

Any help would be appreciated. PS 90(89 built) laser 2.0 Turbo

You have a 1g 6 bolt motor and only 2g's 7 bolt motors crankwalk. are there any other symptoms such as low oil pressure etc. and is the noise def coming from that area?

Oil pressure seems to sit about 1/4 from the lowest mark at idle. It makes its way back up in between the "good" marks under running conditions. I've read that is not unusual?

I'm pretty sure its comming from there. It could possibly be the sound bouncing around oddly but I don't think so. I've only listened to it from the top end. I put my ear on the Timing cover and it doesn't get as loud as I think it would if it were something rubbing on the cover causing it. I checked all timing belt cover bolts and indeed tightened one down. I thought that would fix it also..WRONG.

I've put my head on the valve cover and I only get lifter noise from that area not that click. Mind you it only gets really noticable untill you get up in the RPM. Untill you rev it a bit its really not that very loud at all, sometimes undectable..sometimes you can hear it a bit.

I'm going to remove all belts tomorrow and test it out a minute. See if the alternator or AC compressor(wich don't work) or anything else connected to a belt is clattering on me.

Please don't let that stop anyone from sugesting ideas or saying if they think it could be walk. I know the 1Gs aren't as well known for it but anything can walk.
