ok before everyone flames me for this,i was just wondering how loud a turbo 2g is with a straight pipe i got one but havnt put it on...... exhaust bolts kicking my @ss wondering if its worth the time, except racing with race gas......rather it not be loud, heard one on a wrx loud as hell, but heard it on a 1g and wasnt really that loud(liked)

I think I might be in the best position to answer this since I JUST installed mine. UP until a three days ago I had a 3" cat back with two resonators, the car was very quite. Idle just had a bit of a rumble but it was so quiet that you could only hear the exhaust over the engine sounds if you went to the back of the car.

I installed the 2.5" straight pipe on monday and the car has definitly gotten quite a bit louder. There is a lot more rumble and generally alot more sound. It doesn't sound bad but it can get quite loud at times. Also, I should point out that I've driven my car for close to 500 miles since I put it on and still no CEL. Hope that helps!

I am looking to get a straight pipe for my 2g gsx... the first question i have is how do u get the damn Cel light to stay off?... my second (i know everyone here says stay away from ebay, but...) does it really matter what kind of straight pipe?

BTW: I have a 3" Pacesetter DP, Stock Cat, & 3" Tanabe Cat-back exhaust (yes i have a Tanabe on my GSX)

O2 Sensor spacer or O2 simulator.

It isn't to outrageous.

Try running around with just your Down Pipe :D.

Here in Wyoming you can do things like that and not get messed with haha.
However, some of the looks you get are funny.

when i was in the process of making my 2.5 turbo back exhaust, i had to take it to work with out the back half of the pipe finished (diff back) and needless to say i thought it sounded like poo... At idle the car sounded like an old International Super H... idk bout you but i don't want a car that sounds like a tractor. Needless to say i put the o2 simulator on and put a 2.5in muffler (not a can) and it sounds just perfect to me..:thumb:

I'm currently running only a 3" downpipe. No cat, no catback, no resonators... my DP has a misaligned flange so I still need to fab up an adaptor to join it to the catback and I've been putting it off.

The biggest difference I noticed was spoolup. After replacing the stock DP and installing a tubular O2 housing my tiny 14b went from 15psi at about 3000-3100rpm to 15 psi at about 2600-2700rpm when WOT.

The sound is pretty rediculous. Sitting at idle when warm, you can hear the turbo whistling steadily at low volume through the exhaust, and it sounds just like a big turbo diesel truck. At WOT under boost the whole car rattles and shakes and I cannot hear my passenger sitting next to me shouting at me. I really dislike it but I haven't found time to attend to it yet, maybe next week I'll get it back out to my in-laws' farm and break out the old stick welder.

In had the turbo back apexi 3". When I decided to go awd I just hacked ogg the can and the dp and welded up a true STRAIT EXHAUST. The apexi had a huge resinator that I didnt even think about but when I fired it up it was alot louderthan the apexi eventhough it was the same can. It sounded awsome. I've got 264 cams that never seemed to make a difference but some how after strait pipeing the exhaust the car developed a very nice lope. The cops around here are real dicks about modified exhaust so I put the silencer in the tip. Sounds like the plain apexi now, with a lope.

ya, i planned to get straight pipes from the turbo back and maybe put a resonator or 2 in between.

wasnt sure how loud the car would be with no baffles at all. im sure it will be loud, but unbareably? unlawfully? haha

any advice?

I think your idle will be ####ed as far as quietness goes. And wide open will definitely be loud. Just my .02 though. And unbearably is an opinion. VRS turboback is plenty loud for me and that passes emissions.
