I am gonna be building my engine from the block up and installing it in my 91 gsx. I am woundering how many hours about this will take doing most by my self? Just give me estimtes if you have built an engine before. Thanks

Lets go through the process.

Pull engine
Strip engine down to block inspecting everything
Order all gaskets, dowels, core plugs you need
Send block to shop to be hot tanked and milled/bored (if needed)
Assemble block to spec
Put engine back in car

And all the little things in between. Better have a DD ready!

I planned on my build taking a few months, but im going on a year AND a few months. Things just add up, Parts are sometimes hard to get a hold up, Engine build changes paths, etc

A few to a lot, there's no real way to answer this question. My best advice to you is to follow the directions in your shop manual word by word, don't take shortcuts, and pentuple-check everything.

Seriously, take as long as you need to, but just pay attention while doing it.

yea take ## time like the other said. ive built small and big blocks but the turbo world still seems to amaze me these motors are more sensitive than a woman who is PMS'ing. ive read the shop manual cover to cover numerous times i reccomend reading it over before starting the build. i just finished building my motor if u have and ?s ask

I Guess it would all depend on you, what you need, and $ flow.
When you have to buy parts can you order em when you need em? And overnight them to have em as you go.
A little luck wouldnt hurt either. I know had bad luck with a couple well known vendors when orders were double processed, shipped late, and some parts were on backorder.

If i have all the parts, block and head are fresh from the machine shop and i remember everything i needed (belts, gaskets, liquor & Dr. Pepper) I will do it in a day. I am slow and cautious. The wait for me is usually the machinist. You need a clean workspace and lots of lighting...you will be thankful in the end.

Triple check your clearances, accuracy is important. I just went through a learning experience, make sure your torque wrench is accurate.

Its a great sense of accomplishment when you build your own engine, at least for me.:thumb:
