Just like it says how many miles can you rack up on a 4G63 before you have to worry about it breaking down a lot, stuff breaking and popping off the engine, oil leaks and burning, etc.

Thanks!

the 1st 1000 miles is when u have to worry about it. depending on how the owner maintains it, depends on how long it will last. engines dont have a set milage when stuff starts going wrong, like 50,000 miles timing belt breaks. 75,000 miles head gasket blows 100,000 miles right front tie rod breaks and sends your car flying in a ditch. it all depends on you and the previous owners. just do the routine mantinace on it regularly and inspect parts every week or so.

That is true. I will give a care a good once over before buying it.

However I think I'm going to do matenance things on it right off the bat.
Upper and Lower Rad Hoses (have had these go and they are a bi***)
Coolent flush
Brake pads and rotors
Oil Change

That's all I think would be safe to change right off the bat.

Anything else I should change on a 4G63 turbo?

It's a pain in the ass with the engine out of the car, too.

It really depends on who had it before you ( if there are other owners ) and how well it was taken of. My second DSM was in some guys garage that hadn't been driven daily for a few years, so it was mostly in good condition with only one other owner ( which was taken to the dealer regularly ). I had to replace some usual stuff ( ISC and the clutch master cylinder ), but it had 150psi of compression across the board and endplay is within specs at 130,000 miles, so I figure I have a good plateform to beat on. Just remember that the timing belt intervals are for stock cars, so if performance goes up, I would decrease the amount of time between belt changes. 4G63s are strout motors and can handle alot of abuse, so if everything is in order, go all out.

if you want a peace of mind. Do the T-belt, water pump, tensisoner(wrong spelling) and change all fluids (tranny, T-case, radiator, oil, clutch blah blah blah blah) and you shoulde be fine, my last 2g engine ran to 166K ! :talon: :thumb:

Thanks for all the help guys.

Are there any bonuses to swap in the jdm engine? Can I just swap the engine itself in your do I have to change a lot of stuff. 92 tsi awd is the car btw.

So true.
Mines at 163k and running fine.
(the turbos seals are going tho... :( )

If you treat the car like a queen, she will treat you like a king.
Just make sure you know that she is the boss......

Well, I have a 90, and I swapped to a 91-94 (not positive on the year) JDM. So far I've had to swap out the Throttle Body because the Throttle Positioning Sensor didn't match up with my 90' wiring, and my Spark Plug coils didn't line up. Along with this little transistor box or somesuch right next to it.

I'll make a thread once I'm finished with all the details.

It will last a long time if you leave it alone. You start finger f'n it and it will leave fluid all over the place.OMG

if it helps, I was boosting to 18psi all the time with 220K on the clock. Never had a problem with it. CRANK THE BOOST!
