How High is to High to Spike on boost?

Hey guys I am running a 96 AWD TSI. I have put in a boost gauge and MBC as well as a nice intake and so on. Anyways I seem to be spiking at 17-18 psi and then holding at 11psi. This to me seems like a pretty high spike in PSI. Now I will be tuning the car up to 16psi soon but will I be spiking at like 20-23psi? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks

A 6 or 7 psi spike seems kinda high, if it was only 1 or 2 that would be "normal". Will it still spike this much once you turn the boost up? Probably but you won't know for sure unless you try it. It could be the type of your MBC, some of them seem to cause alot more spike compared to others. What style is yours? (ball/spring, etc)

I origionally had a TurboXS MBC that worked fine on my t25 but once I switched to the evoIII I would see 5 or 6 psi spikes. I switched to a Greddy Profec Type S EBC & problem solved.

Yes the boost controller I am using is a ball and spring.

IMO, if the spike/creep exceeded the capabilities of the headgasket and/or the fuel system, then it is large enough to worry about.
