this week im pulling my broken tranny out and sending it out to shep to get his rebuild and possibly an LSD installed

Since the tranny is going to be off, should i just pull the rest of the engine and throw some rods and pistons into it? Its a 99gst and its doesnt seem to have crank walk yet, its got those new revised thrust bearings, so if the crank doesnt have any wear on it yet, cant i just do all new bearings, then throw in some eagle rods, weisco pistons, re-hone the block, do some arp studs and do a quick and simple 7 bolt build on it while its out?

I have been contemplating building it and now that the tranny has to come out, im seriously considering it. I really dont want to do a full blown 6 bolt if my 7 bolt is in good shape. Its got 85000 miles and no real signs of crank walk yet. If the crank hasnt been worn yet, and i do all new bearings, it should be alright ???

You ever heard of that term "if its not boke don't fix it". Are you planning on running a hugh turbo, Nitrious? Are you still holding good compression? Plenty of people running stock bottom ends making 400+hp.

Check your crank end play if its out of spec. replace your mains other wise I'd leave it alone. Run the 7bolt until it breaks, then be paranoid like so many others on this site and get a 6bolt.

Standard forged pistons isnt a good idea..... Besides its not just a weekend job either alot more should go into an engine build. If its not knocking or losing compression rock it how it is. Def. put that LSD in the tranny though.

i know whats involved in building an engine, i just finished building a neon 2L dohc....

I was just thinking that instead of only pullin out the tranny, i might as well pull out the whole engine, send the tranny to shep and in the meantime, build up the 7 bolt....but i guess i can just run it till it breaks, i just dont want to throw a rod in the middle of a trip or important drive, LOL....

Compression is still good, its just been driven very hard and has been through alot.

I think i will have shep do the tranny and throw in an LSD for sure though
