How does the starter work on a 2g?

Is the the one that grounds it?

It goes like this. Starter is grounded all the time, and Hot all the time. When you turn your key a positive signal goes down to your starter relay, your starter relay then feeds the same positive signal to the starter solenoid. Your solenoid then acts as a relay sending the constant positive attached to the starter to the brushes inside, hence starting the car.

So then say if I wanted to just jump the starter solenoid. Do I just give it 12v? Since Im bypassing the relay?

Yes. as stated above, the starter relay sends 12V down the BLK/Y wire, tripping the solenoid to engage the starter. It's continuously grounded through the block, and has constant 12V to the starter motor/solenoid 'feed' side. The solenoid wire completes the circuit to engage the starter motor and bendix.

Are you trying to determine if the starter relay is bad?

I'm trying to dertermn something! haha. My starter engages. I can here it trying, but doesn't spin the flywheel. Got my starter to go get it bench tested. Came back fine, they tested it twice. When I first bought my GST the starter/mpi relay was missing. So the previous owner "jumped" the relay. Funny thing is that. I can start the car by rolling in first gear. And as the car is on. I turn the key, I can hear the starter teeth grind the flywheel?!? This is madness!

Hmm.. I'd guess either the flywheel teeth are done, or the starter bendix is eff'd up.. but if they tested it, then the bendix engagement woulda been evident.

Did you watch them test it? If so, could you see the bendix portion (the little toothed gear) extend out into the nose of the starter, and spin? or did the starter bendix/armature just spin?
