Does body know how to install the tie end rod on a gst.Seem like the tie end rod wont seat all the way down seem to have a big gap try hitting it with a hammer and pressing it in but nothing. Also does it have a washer seem like it would but I only have the screw and pin but I seem to remember it had one sorry it been 6 months sense I rebult th motor and I'm just now puting the axle and stuff back.

did you just replace the tie rod ends? or the whole rack and pinion assembly?
if you just replaced the tie rod ends, i hope you counted the amount of remaining thread before you took it off. either way, you're most likely going to have to have to get your car realigned. the tie rod ends should have a rubber boot and a tapered shaft with threads for the castle nut. when installing it, just slip in the hole and torque the castle nut down to spec. then insert a new cotter pin and make your signature =)

Can you at least start that castle nut on?

You may want to pull the joint out and try cleaning the hole and the tie rod end off. It's a tapered fit, so both surfaces need to be clean. (I like to put just a dab of anti-seize on after cleaning.)

your going to have to get an alignment and no there isnt a washer. just the castle nut and the cotter pin go on top of the knuckle. just torque it down, fill it with grease, and take it to an alignment shop

Seem like the tie end rod wont seat all the way down seem to have a big gap try hitting it with a hammer and pressing it in but nothing.

When it is fully seated, the threaded portion sticks thru about an inch. The rubber boot should be pressed against the steering knuckle but it should be about 3/4" thick because it is full of grease.

They normally don't need hit in with a hammer and assuming there was nothing wrong, you might have flattened the bottom of it so much that the tie rod doesn't move freely. You need to get it bolted in there and make sure you can twist the tie rod back and forth. The ball should pivot easily in the socket or you damaged it beating on it with a hammer.

what brand of tie rod end did you use? I just replaced mine with Moog ends and the rubber boot does get compressed a noticeable amount to get everything tightened down.

I just did a rebuilt 6 months ago and I'm putting the same tie end rod back on the nuckle. It my first eclipse and it been over 6 monts and I can't remember how it install and I cant seem to get either side down flat on the nuckle.Any chance somebody can post up a pic so I can see how it look like?

okay I figure it out I seen a pic of the tie end rod on autozone web site and look like I'm missing the little black rubber boot that sit on the top.It make sense now wondering why that thang was so long and I feel really stupid now for wasting 4 days working on it and now the fun part of looking for it after 6 months
