How do these fuel lines look?

I tested my fuel pressure and got low readings, 28-38psi, plugged/unplugged, but "hold" pressure fine at 22psi. And I've been smelling fuel outside the car since I bought it and mechanic couldn't see anything, and now nor can i.

They are all dirty but intact and I didn't see any areas that looked different, assuming it would.

I'm about to check the pressure from my fuel pump but as I mentioned I've been smelling fuel, so that's why I'm focused on finding a leak.

Anyone ever use smoke from say a cigar to check these lines?

smoke test it as far as you can. if you dont get anything follow the line, inspect everything fuel goes trough to the injectors, it could be anywhere. did you test it after the fuel filter or before? could be the wiring, filter or the pump also contributing to the pressure. the issues may be related, may not be.

I tested it at the banjo bolt, and filter is brand new. Btw I noticed with this "OEM" fuel pressure tester kit that if you put any tension on the hose from twisting it it increases the reading. Never done this before, but I found that discouraging. But after making sure the hose was completely lax the numbers went down.

I'm searching for the source of the odor it since I'm down there I'll test the pump. Maybe there is a leak into of the fuel tank(?)...

The smell that you are smelling is likely the evap canister or the vent hose for it if it has been removed.

That thing under the battery? Really? I hope so. What about the low fuel pressure? 20mpg?(to the gallon. I let it run out of gas then again and got my exact mpg) Fuel pump? Was about to test pressure on it but this kit didn't have the right adapter...

If it makes any difference I smell the odor on the driver's side mostly, and in the cabin but my mechanic told me once that it wasn't possible to come from the cabin, that I probably brought a waft of it in the car. Kinda hard to really determine. Maybe I should pressure wash the lines then drive then inspect again(don't know if I won't just save that as a last resort)...

Anyone ever blow smoke in their fuel lines? Where would I do it from? one of the lines at the tank?

I'm having this exact same problem. No idea where it's coming from but it comes at different times/conditions which makes it even harder for me to understand it. Sometimes the smell is the strongest when I first fill up, other times strong when the car is low on gas, and the oddest is sometimes when I get on the car hard (like a pull) when I get off the gas there's this huge rush of gas smell almost as if it's coming out of the bov or something. Fills the whole cabin, it's made me dizzy and my girl almost throw up before. Other times I can do a pull and not smell anything at all. Did notice tho while I was changing my fuel filter that there's a hard line under the battery that's not connected to anything, what's that for?

Yours is likely from the gasket on the top of the tank where the sending unit seals to the tank.

What about mine also? In a bit I'm gonna look into one of those neon gas or something test kits. Haven't checked my Evap can yet tho...

:hmm: Worth checking out, where can I get a new gasket for it and what's it called?

Dealership. I don't know the specific name but they will bring up an exploded view and you can look at it and decide.

Yours likely isn't the gasket, it would be pouring out fuel because it is in the side of the tank versus the top on an awd. If your car isn't leaking fuel than your problem is likely the evap system, injector o-rings or injector isolators. Smell around the intake manifold to see if there is any fuel vapor coming from there. If you don't have emission testing where you live than i would remove the evap canister and cap off the hose that goes to the tank.

Thanks! I'll check it out. Another question tho, the hard line under the battery tray, whats it for as mine isnt connected?

That is the line that goes from the evap canister to the tank. If it isn't connected of capped off you will get fumes in the engine bay.
