Why not do a 2.3 stroker kit with weisco pistons, and eagle h-beams with total seal rings. The aftermarket crank i would talk to a proven member but i'm pretty sure eagle makes a crank for our vehicle as well. Then i would do all new valves .1mm oversized with springs and retainers (brian crower) best bang for your buck, then i would do hks cams and timing belt. Don't overlook a new water and oil pump as well.

If you are going to do a stroker I would get brian crower 280s they are like half the price of HKS cams. If your not doing a stroker just get some BC 272s. Also if you plan to keep the 14b get 264/272 combo.

If you do keep the 14b, don't even think about touching a 272 camshaft. I wouldnt recommend a 264 either, but that depends on the rest of your setup. I am pretty much maxing out my 14b and I'm still on stock cams( 276 whp, 299 wtq at 22 psi spike, and 19 psi hold). Most aftermarket cams are outside the efficiency range of the 14b. My 14b runs out of steam around 6k. 14b=stick with stock cams. 16g=264s. 20g or larger=272s.

But then again, what do I know. ;)

the best way to make it "like new" is to actually make it new. a rebuild will cost you but its worth it in the end. as for how to build you motor there are a million and 1 ways to go about it. sit down and take the time and patiance to figure out exactly what you want.

basically though it is cheaper to rebuild aftermarket concidering most manufacturers no longer make O.E.M. parts for vehicles 10 years or older. I was also assuming that you would be upgrading your turbo on a rebuild, if the engine is done then your turbo is probably long gone.

thanks guys for your input, i wasn't planning on keeping the 14b because i have a 50 trim turbo that came on the car when i bought it (view pics) that wouldn't spool because of no supporting mods. yes i already have the motor pulled i'll have pics in like a few days, i think that my transfer case is bad but i don't know how to find out if it is bad or not, but besides that i considered a 2.3 stroker and hks 272s and also some new valves, but i don't know hardly anything but bolt-ons, engine internals is something that i really need to learn about, how much would it cost to completely rebuild it without the cost of cams, valves, stroker, rebuild kit, ect...
Thanks:talon:

Are you asking how much it would cost just for labor? An engine rebuild can be as cheap or as expensive as you want. Theres always something to add or port to make your engine faster/stronger. Your best bet is to find out how much money your are willing to put into this rebuild and then you can start choosing the right parts that will fit your budget. But to answer your question an engine rebuild can cost anywhere from $4,000 to $20,000+ depending on what you want and if you do the work yourself. Find out your budget and goals and your life will be a lot easier.

What are your goals here? (time or hp) Other members have made 400+ hp on stock bottom ends. Are you planning on dropping in an aftermarket transmission and clutch? Don't forget your going to have to also do a FMIC, fuel supply (lines, pump, afpr, injectors), tuning software like DSM Link, and an exhaust system.

Labor would really depend on a number of variables such as what work you want done, how well you want the work done, and the hourly rate that the shop is going to charge you which is different at each shop. If you want to know the answers to questions like these your best bet would be to go to a local shop and ask them for a quote. But like i said earlier, you need some goals, weather it be horsepower, quarter mile time, or amount of money to spend.

Well I guess the real question is what kind of budget are you working with?

I was reading your profile and you have a 50 trim. If your planning on running high boost with it, a set of eagle rods and ross/weisco pistons might be in order. Also some arp head studs for high boost.
