I have a alternator out of a 1g turbo car and my 96 alternator broke today. I dont have the money to get a new one. The only thing i see different on the 2 is the plugs. The 7 bolt has like 4 prongs and the 6 bolt has 2. What is the plug for and is there a way to change the plug and make it work. I need my car fixed tongiht and i dont have the money to go buy a new one.:toobad:

I dont think you can. ( I may be worng but I dont think so) the 2g alternator is controlled by the ecu. It seems like to big of a chance to mess up a even more expensive part(the ecu) Iwould try to bite the bullit and get the money for a new alternator. Try th junkyard or the classifieds and you may get one cheap.

O man. I knew something was gonna happen to my car a couple days before the track opened. Anyone got a alternator around Pittsburgh-Akron

Hey,, Interesting topic. as my car wont start or do anything on my 97 Gst and when i was taking it apart for my rebuild the positive cables wouldnt come undone the stud started turning inside the alternator and sparks flew everywhere.. perhaps it fried my ecu.. and thas why i cant get the starter trigger wire two kick in to engage the starter??? If the ecu runs it?

Ive had nothing but trouble with this car... This all got started when the 2 wires the run from teh battery to the alternator melted on the o2 sensor.. AHH

Thats what happened to mine to. The bolts that hold those wires on just kept turning and sparks when flying and it killed my battery. The ecu still worked fine after that tho. WTF
