Ok when i got my car it stated that it has 1mm oversized SS valves and CROWER springs. So when i took the valve cover off to paint it i could notice the SS valves but wasn't sure about the springs.

How could i tell a differance between stock and CROWER or any other single springs??... would there be any stamping on the springs?....

CROWER??
HMm...I had the Brian Crower springs/retainers and they are marked "BC" on each valve keeper.
There is really no way of telling because some people use just the springs and stock keepers/retainers/valve locks.
If you got the cyl head out it is easy to figure out what you got. (Ex: TI springs are lighter then stock springs, and it takes more force to compress them obiviously.)

yeah the reason i'm concerned is because the retainers and keepers look stock :|...

If somebody went the length to do the springs they would have done the retainers aswell. The crower retainer are stampted "crower". The springs damn near look like stock.. even next to each other. But the valves you would not be able to tell unless pulling the head off.
Its a good persumption if the retainers are stock, so is the rest of the head and the person was full of it.

I'm guessing that you are talking about BC, as some people refer to them as Crower cams. But I'm aware that there are also Crower cams. Here are a few pics of my Brian Crower S&R Kit :sneaky:

i can tell that the valves definitly are SS ;).... worked in a autmotive machine shop for 2 years, had quite few mitsubishi cars in my life and i know how the studs look like :)...

...o well maybe i'll just pull one of the springs out and just lean on it see if it feels any stronger then stock :p...

Why? They are different. Crower has been around years longer than BC.

I run the CROWER, not Brian Crower springs and retainers.

Here is a detailed pic of the setup. The springs are not labeled, however they look different and darker in color to stock brownish springs.

Also the retainers are aluminum and labeled with the Crower name and part number.

How in the world did you get that picture to come out!!!! I tried about 30 times to take pics of my old head with them in it a while ago that I sold... and not a single one would not just glare real bad... Im jeoulious.

Have the machine shop check their tension and compare it to a stock one. Should be 10-15% stiffer.

check the tension with your hand, if you got a spare stock spring....you can tell on the spot the difference. Not to mention that the crower spring/retainer should weigh less than the stock ones.

By the way, what other items on this car you purchased were aftermarket? Just wondering what else was done to the car.
