Hey, i will soon be putting a home made turbo kit on my car, using a stock T-25 off of a GS-T. now i only want to run 7psi, but i think the actuator is set at somewhere around 13psi. upon some searching i have found that an MBC will not allow me to lower the boost past the stock level. so my question is, how can i only run 7psi on the T-25? I have a general idea about how the wastegates work, but am not that familiar with the different parts with there corresponding names. so when answering, if you could give as many diagrams as possible it would be great.
thanks

If the wastegate is at 13psi you can't set it lower, unless you get some type of adjustable actuator from FP.

Sorry, but whats FP? and i thought i read on some other thread(although i was still confused) that you could replace the spring in the wastegate with a weaker one so it would open at a lower amount of boost? is this possible or true? any diagrams would be much appreciated
thanks

i thought the adjustables went from stock boost levels to higher ??

I thought you could also adjust if lower but maybe I'm wrong.

You could go with an external wastegate (Tial), but you'd have to get a manifold with a flange on it, like this http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=338&sort=1&cat=7&page=1. They can be ordered with springs that will give you the desired pressure. http://www.lightningmotorsports.com/tialsport.htm

will one of those springs from the lower website fit in the T-25 and change the actuator? like if i got that 7.25 psi one, would that be able to change the wastegate to open at around 7 psi?
thanks

You are getting an external and internal gate confused. An external you can just swap out springs, but and internal actuator can not have the springs changed without a good amout of beat to fit paint to match, if at all. See if there are some other actuators that have a lower psi setting and see if they will transfer.

i emailed that forced performance website.

heres what i said:

Im putting together a turbo kit for my 2nd gen NT dsm, and im using a T-25 off of a GS-T. Now i only want to run 7psi for now, but i believe the stock actuator is set at somewhere around 13psi. do you sell anything or can you make me anything that will allow me to only run 7psi on the T-25? thank you very much and i appreciate your help.

heres what they said:

Cant go lower, sorry, not with a boltin at least. If you want a low pressure actuator ask for the Sy/Ty stock actuator. They are 4.6psi, but you’ll have to fabricate to install since it is a different shape, and that part I cant help with.

whats a Sy/Ty actuator? and who am i suppose to ask? thanks for any help

That would be from a Syclone or Typhoon. They are older trucks from GM that had a single turbo 4.3 V6 and AWD. Pretty hot IMO. Try www.syty.net and see if they have a forsale section. You will have to take the actuator off there turbo and make it fit your car.

would i be better off doing something like that above or running an external wastegate? like a tial one with a 4 bar spring?

hey what if i did something like this to the piping. put a restrictor in, and run the wastegate line before the restrictor and teh boost line after. it would take some trial and error but it might work for a little bit. tell me what you think. i know its not the most efficient way, but i gotta find something. ok well the photo wont load up but i think you can picture what im saying. have a section of the pipe that is smaller then the rest. what do you think?

That restrictor thing will probably just give you boost creep. I am a big fan of saving up a bit more money and doing it right the first time. I would get an external WG mounted on a nice O2 housing and call it a day. You can run from .4bar all the way up to 4 bar if you wanted. It might be a bit expensive at first but, in the long run you will be happier. My .02.

with that i might be nearing the cost of a hahn kit, which is exactly the reason i wanted to do this custom thing, a: to save some money, and b: to show my dad that it isnt that expensive so he would let me do it. but if its gonna cost this much, i think i might scrap the project and just buy a 55 shot of zex for now, then when i get a real job after college i can boost it.

It can be done either way. Don't let it get the best of you. If you want to turbo it then go for it. These are just suggestions not the rules. Find a Sy/Ty actuator and fab some brackets to make it fit. Then you will be done.
