Hey I am completely stumped as to what this problem could be. Whenever the outside temp is, id say 75+(and it gets worse when its hotter out), my car will stutter, and the check engine light will come on. This only happens for a brief second, then will run fine for a few more seconds to a minute. As it gets worse the stuttering/engine light will become more frequent until the point where if im not in gear AND moving the car will die. As soon as it dies i immeadiatly smell gas. This has happened since i bought the car last summer, and only happens when its a warm day. The temp guage NEVER goes past half, and the engine bay is not overly hot. I have ran the car for hours without this happening in a 60degree day. Lol like i said i am completely stumped on this one, so ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Oh and by the way I did hook my diagnostics comp up and the codes were from the MAS, I recently changed out the MAS for another stock MAS and well obviously it didnt help LOL. There was a 3rd code but i am not sure what it was.

(With your engine cold) First off check your coolant level. Second Test your radiator cap.
Now turn on the car, let it heat up to operating temperature and watch for the coolant to flow through to the engine. If it does not your thermostat is either bad or your radiator is clogged. Also check to see if your fans are even turning on. Otherwise its possible your pump could be bad.

Next step (turn off your engine first) squeeze the lower radiator hose. If you have air bubbles escaping out the coolant that is your problem ( air in the coolant does NOT help cool the engine).
If you still haven't figured out your problem flush your system.

A fail safe method to keep your car from overheating is to set your HVAC setting to hot, and turn it on the air full blast, you might be sweating your balls off, but a I think I'd sweat a little to save my engine. This flows some coolant to your heater core + directs the hot coolant away from the engine.
If you just pull over and shut off your car you're actually heating the coolant by not circulating it through the cooling system. Unless you've got a couple of hours to blow.

Now that you've done this once your cooling system has reach normal operating temperature it will provide the correct air/fuel mixture. If your engine temperature is too cold you will run rich, hence smelling fuel.

The thermostat sounds like the problem if the temp gauge is not going higher. If you change the thermostat make sure you put in the correct direction, if it is reversed it will not flow right and will read incorrectly.

This is an old thread I have decided to revive...I've had tons of problems this week..I have drove my car 3 times this week, and it seems to break down everytime...Things on the list to check EGR,wires, coil, thermostat, coolant level(full, I just filled it)..Radiator cap is leaking, yesterday there was a crack in the top of radiator..I'm having a great time with my car being stubborn...Anybody have anymore suggestions? She starts for a minute or 5 and then just dies..She died when I pulled into my parking spot..IT seems like when she dies, there is almost no voltage left, and will not crank right back up..

Coolant was leaking on passenger side of vehicle, the alt is on the drivers side. Maybe a heat soaked alt, is the culprit here.. Ohh and now that you mention something about my alt..When I removed the battery-jumper deally, the car seemed to die soon after that..

If I can get her moved to my normal parking spot, I should be able to diagnose alot easier...

Checked all connections between alt, and battery, charge back wire included..Checked relays, fuses all appeared brand new..Checked connections in fuse box, no wires corroded or unhooked.Filled coolant, Temp guage in dash was working, engine felt a little hot...Lower rad hose felt warm, upper was pretty hot...Oil pressure was fine, oil is getting darker but only has couple hours, and less than 500 miles....Injectors need to be cleaned, I did not seafoam these when I put them in..Fuel pressure should be at 38psi(38 psi fpr installed).
