When I turn at very low speeds I get a nasty spuealing sound. It happened for about a week.. then stopped for 2 weeks, then started again... then stopped for a while(about a month) Now its all the time. I was told to check power steering fluid and I'm good on that. I was also told bad power steering box??

Anyone had this problem? How much should I expect to pay for repair?

power steering box??? I had a problem with mine and it was the rack and pinion... the best place i found was www.jorgenauto.com helpful, fast shipping, and just 110% I would highly recomend them.

im havin the same problem too hmm i though it was the power sterring fluid or the tires rubbing against something

Im having the same problem...and it could be one of two things on my car....my rotor is extremely rusted and my calipers need replaced on my rear passenger side which is causing my brake to rub constantly on my wheel....but i think it is my rack and pinion because the turning noise always happened ever since i bought the car. Plus ive been told my rack and pinion are really bad...

Is the sound metallic, like two parts rubbing together, or a squeal like a slipping belt?

If it is a metallic sound could it could be your tie rod ends are shot and when you turn hard they are pushing the brake dust cover into the rotor and making it squeal.

But first check your belts.

:dsm: :dsm: i am having kinda the same problem every one seems to think its the belts but why would it be so hard to turn the car if it was just a belt that is not tight enough i think that it might be the pump too so im going to replace it i dont think it would hurt since my car is a 90 so a new one wouldnt do bad if any one has other suggestions other then a belt please let me know my ps is making a loud squeeling noise when i turn and its not from a belt i know the diffrence between the belt and something else ive had alot of belt problems with a few of my other cars and friends replaced them and then it was fine this is definently something else how would i go about checking my power steering fulid :dsm: :dsm:

Belt not tight will cause power steering to loose the "power". Check your tensionor for the alternator. I fixed my tensionor and my belts stopped squealing, and yes my belt squealed every time I turned at low speeds. It's great when you can't even hear the turbo over the damn belts. Good luck:talon:

Like they stated above check your ball joints, cv boots etc. My front right would make this annoying sound whenever I turned the wheel. This lasted for a couple of weeks and thats when the ball joint gave out and my tire was sitting a 45 degree angle. (not pretty)

So basically what I'm trying to say is this could be a very serious problem and I would get it checked out right away.
