This has driven me half insane. My hood will not latch for anything. I removed half the stuff on the car, anything that could possibly be in the way, and it will not latch. The latch works if I push it down with a screwdriver, but I can use my full strength on the hood and it won't go in.

This started after I installed my FMIC. It lines up and everything, I never removed the hood. Someone please help I can't think of anything else to try.

The spot where the support (the one that comes down the front of the car in front of the radiator) attaches to the frame rusted out on mine. It's under the plastic where I have the circle.

Not sure why there, but it did. Take a look and see if anything is left.

I had to slam my hood to get it shut. When I hit black ice, I took my bumper off to fix it. That's when I found it. I temporarly fixed the hole with a sheet of stainless steel over the it.

Well I don't see how that middle support could affect the hood latch, but part of my FMIC install involved pounding that support in flush with the radiator. Could this have made my latch inoperable?

could have made the latch ata different angle that wont allow it to work. I hade the same problem with my FMIC install. I cut the support out entirely and had it welded to the core. Now it is all good. Good Luck

Well its not rusted, but apparently I pounded the lower core support in too much with a hammer, altering the latch's angle slightly. Anyone have any suggestions before I take the whole frontend apart again

OMG, Sort it out man! Everyone runs to the internet now. We can't see it, and it would likely take less time to fix then to post here.

take some whiteout paint the metal piece that falls into the latch (on the hood )
paint it all around front and side of the metal close the hood then open the hood and check where the paint is off.. if its not all the way around or not centered now you have an idea of whats going on.. I'm sure you altered your latch position height more likely then its angle.. Loosen up the bolts on the latch and pull up on the latch tighten up the bolts and try again.. do the whiteout thing first

ohhh and remember.. only GM's can be fixed with hammers..
