Hey, a quick question for people who wired up security systems. I have a Viper 791xv and the only wire Im having trouble with is the hood pin switch wire. I know it's located in the engine bay but I don't want to extend the wire coming from the brain. Is there an easier location to tap into. I have a 2g turbo if that matters. Thanks.

Your 99 came with a factory hood pin switch?

On a 2G with a stock hood, you can drill a hole and install a regular hood pin where the yellow circle is on the pic below.

My 98 Eclipse came with a hood switch from the factory located next to the arm base that holds the hood open, factory alarm type of thing.......

Although I do not know which wire it is inside the cabin.

Do you guys think it would be O.K. to extend the wire by about a foot and a half to tap in at the pin switch in the engine bay?

The hood pin switch on Viper alarms is negative ground. As long as there are no power wires going to that factory hood pin switch and it is a negative ground switch, you can use it. And yes, you can extend the wire by foot or more.

Did it work?

My aftermarket hood switch broke yesterday so I'm thinking of buying a factory hood switch and wiring it to my viper alarm using the dedicated hood switch wire.

Formontoya , i have a 98gst myself , the hood pin located at the same spot yours is. The guys that were putting my alarm in, just extended the wire and hooked it up there. Works perfectly , you can hook it up there no problem . Dont forget to put the wire in the "harness" or whatever you call the plastic hose that you put the wire in to protect from heat & rubbing :) good luck
