I've heard the holset is the better choice (not to mention the cheaper).

Which one would you choose? Im wanting to spool at about 3-3500 30lbs max

Here's some supporting mods

7 bolt 2.3 stroker
forged internals
6 bolt head
280 cams
Sheet metal intake
Tubular manifold (will buy after turbo)
3" exhaust
1000cc injectors
255 fuel pump
Water meth injection

Neither will spool that fast even the holset in the .55AR bolt on housing. My 7-blade HX.35 in the bolt on housing doesn't spool until about 4.2k.

Yeah man that's like 16g spool territory LOL

I realize that now. My friend was telling me where his 16g spools at and I got that number stuck in my head instead of the 4200 that I read on dsmtalk. (My memory sucks.LOL)

I am sure the 2.3 will make a difference over the 2.0.

With my SMIM & 272s & T3 HX-35 setup I hit 30 psi at 4200 on a 2.0. Others see full boost a good bit later on a 2.0. The 60% E-85 helps spool a good bit on my car.

I would imagine full boost is gonna be about 4500-4700 on the HX-40, but it is just a guess.

It's all good LOL. But yeah I would expect somewhere above 4000 even with the 2.3

different turbos...
One was engineered and designed for the aftermarket world, helping guys run 10 seconds..
The other was designed for diesel trucks..
You're looking at ball bearing, vs. Journal bearing.

They're very different. Now, for the price of a gt35, you can almost buy an fp turbo based off of the gt35, but with a billet wheel and a DSM exhaust housing.
If you look in the vendor announcements, FP is bringing back the old school fp red turbo and has a big sale on their intake pipe with a filter, the two together is right around 1100. The red flows 65lbs/min and will spool quicker than either the gt35 or the holset, and they only flow marginally more.

How strong is the FP? I would imagine the holset is pretty strong to hold up to diesels

Sweet deal on the red. Id be all over that. 65lbs is a pretty stout turbo. Did not know they were that potent.

I ran a FP Green on my 1g and if I'm not mistaken the FP Red flows quite a bit more than the FP Green. With that being said I absolutely LOVED my Green. And if I do happen to switch out turbos my eyes are set on the FP Red! Forced Performance makes wonderful products. Plus it is bolt on, so no worries about spending money else where. It's all up to what you want and prefer though.

That's weird, my HX35 7-blade with the stock housing & an open t3 ebay manifold on a worn out 2.0 spooled about the same; bolton housing & stock ported manifold it was a few hundred rpms faster.

PTE makes a 6235r wich is basically a billet 6262BB with the gt35r turbine wheel mated to it, making it spool a lot faster than the 6262 ( I hit 25psi by about 4300)

I think a part of mine not spooling until 4.2k might be that I have FP4R cams which have a lot of top end but might hurt the spool.
