HKS VPC alternatives.

Ok I searched on here and kinda found a answer to one of my questions. I read that the hks vpc would allow me to vent to atmosphere. I also read that the hks vpc is getting kinda outdated and played out so my other question is are there any alternatives that I can use that are similar to the hks vpc. I know alot of you are going to say "just don't vent to atmosphere" but I already have my pipes and bov and stuff and don't plan on recirculating so I would appreciate it if someone could help me out please.

The only other product I know of on the market is the maft pro. It has a speed density option(exactly the same thing a vpc does.) however you will have to buy map sensor and intake air tempature sensor to make it work, but its still alot cheaper than a vpc.

I have a VPC without a safc or gcc and its been half a headache. Im still pretty green to tuning, so its harder to find vpc people than gm maf/safc people to talk with. I dont know where you are with tuning, but keep this in mind.

HKS/GCC combo isn't horrible. You'll get faster spool, maybe 200 rpm and about 1-2 psi more on the topend if your turbo is maxxing out. That alone is worth some horsepower. Tuning wise, the GCC really helps out. I run the response knob at 6:00 or full max. Gain you most definitely want to run it full max at 6:00 and then log your 02 volts, then dial it back leaner and fine tune with the GCC. I crank the idle fuel knob almost to max as well at 6:00, or you can adjust it where you like. Watch out trying to run anything above 26 psi as I've found out the hard way the HKS pressure transducer freaks out and in my case was reporting 12 psi when I was actually at 28 psi. Typically the VPC likes to run lean on a well modded setup since the e-prom maps where designed for a specific HKS equipped DSM. Also, if your running a 2g the timing maps at WOT will become a good bit more aggressive since the VPC is reporting lower airflow values to the ECM. Basically you are going to be running leaner and with more timing off the bat, so be very carefully going for that Bonzai 1/4 mile blast.

Driveability in the summer time will be fairly good, with a little throttle stumble if you get off the gas completely. After a while you get used to it and adjusting the idle speed can help offset it some. Idle will always be funky and randomly the idle will drop very low and become unstable, no rhyme or reason. If you need every last bit of horsepower on a 2g, or are running a 1g then the VPC is a decent alternative and a lot cleaner install then a MAFT.
