So I let my friend do a Oil Change for me, he borrowed my car and said he would do it as a thank you, he knew my car was burning a little oil so he decided to go crazy and add in his own remedy. So he put my 20w-50w Royal Purple mixed with Lucas Oil Stabilizer... 50/50.

So here is what I get, I wake up this morning to get going to work, since I do traffic most the way did not really notice a difference, but once I began getting to 55-65 mph my oil pressure gauge started rising like crazy. Could not figure out what had happened until I called my friend to see if he noticed the problem, thats when he told me about the "LUCAS"...

So here is my question, I really dont have time to do a oil change today and once again I work tomorrow, how bad is it if I drive with high oil pressure. How high is way to high? I mean I know Ill run the risk of causing oil leaks in seals, but will this happen over time, or can I expect it happening like tomorrow? Here is a pic of where my gauge sits, but even goes about one more needle thickness higher at a little higher Rpm. Thanks for the help.:thumb:

I mix 5w30 with the lucas additive. My car burns oil, that's why I use it. Seems to work because I don't smoke anymore.

Thats why I thought about using it, but it really made a big difference in Pressure. Im not a fan of using additives and I know Royal Purple is suppose to contain the same stuff that helps seal worn ring and blah blah... I have read a lot of guys use it and seen no affect as far as pressure goes so it does help some, I guess my car might not be doing as bad as I thought and thats why the affect... who knows...

By the way, how much of it are you mixing, 1 quart? or half a quart?

Well thats not as bad of a mix as mine, haha. And did your car completely stop smoking? Because my piston ring is worn on #3, and at idle it just smokes like crazy after about 5 minutes... Even with 50/50 mix Lucas the car still burned it like crazy... just added a even more nasty smell to add insult to injury.

Now, gonna ask a dumb one here on your No.3 with its oil problem: What does the spkplug look like after a good run on the road for that cylinder? Is it black with oil residue, or is it clean? If clean, wonder if your valve seals are shot in that cylinder?

My valve seals could possibly be shot as that is a symptom (the smoke at idle)... but I decided to start with my compression, turned out 40 below and after I did a wet test, the compression shot up so Im pretty sure thats my problem. Or atleast one of them! haha

But I decided that I would just leave that alone and let it be, and I began a 6 bolt rebuild this last week. So I will keep the car running like it is and just hope it lasts... That was the whole reason for me wanting to put thicker oil, thinking it would slow down the smoke but no luck. But a very valuable lesson was learned after about 125.00 worth of oil and three changes later... Stick with 10w-30!

Hey so my car is doing the same thing, i've have never thought anything of my oil pressure till talking with a friend and he mentioned mine was high. ( When i first got the car the manual said its "normal" to be in this range, but everyone else says no...) The oil has always been high ever since i bought it one year ago. Anyone have any ideas? I just changed my oil and used Mobil 1 10w30. It even gets a little higher then that when im on the highway going 70mph. Anyone have any ideas?
