:dsm: :talon: :laser: So this is my first DSM and I have already invested alot of money into it re-building the entire drivetrain of my fwd talon, i want to go further but is it worth it having a 240,000 mile body? My original plan for the car was paint and all of the staged mods. I want to auto-x my car but i know that my suspension and all the bushings have to be shot. Anything wrong with going on with the project? Or is it time to get a lower milage mint condition car to build upon?

It doesnt bother the old car/musclecar restorers how bad the car is when they start a new project. Those guys dont even care if the frame is intact. You have to replace everything on these cars anyway, so unless the car is VERY rusty...keep on keepin on. My buddy CanadianDSM has 365000 kms on his 92, but new engine and suspension, dash and his car is tighter than mine with 225K kms. it doesnt matter....

If you have another car to drive it will be perfect. Just put it on the side and start replacing stuff. If its not covered in rust then go with it. Good luck. My car has 175k miles on it and all i really have to worry about is fixing stupid things like coolant lines and some leaks it can be frustrating, but once i get this stuff delt with it will all be worth it.

Its worth it if you think it is. If the body and what not are still in decent shape, and the car wasn't beat on too much by previous owners, there's no reason that it wouldn't be a good car still. My dsm had 133k on it, but was rebuilt and the previous owners kept it stock and didn't do anything aftermarket to it. That's where I came in.

You already rebiult the drive train. If there is some minor rust, you can always remove it.
My 92 talon already has its third engine and if it breaks again, then I'll fix it again. And yes its my daily driver and only car. So if youi really think that its worth it and you love you car, then do it and make a great machine out of it:thumb:

My 92 TSi AWD has 227,000 miles on it and it's still great. There's a bit of rust here and there, but really nothing a body shop can't fix. The main thing is that the underbody hasn't gone soft. Mine is still solid, and was undercoated every year by the previous owner (who bought from new).

my car has just over 165k on it right now and run strongs... one head job later i figure isn't bad for coming from alaska and now being in pennsylvania... trans gets tough when its real cold but still goes strong... if i were u i would keep it and build it up if u want to get involved and don't mind spending some money and having a few late nights... i got my dsm a couple months back after being a chevy kid my hole life... i still got my vega... but my dsm is just a slowly buiding beast

Agreed! Bottom line is, cars are a labor of love...if you don't love the car, don't bother with it. You'll never get back what you put into a car money-wise, so if you don't get any emotional gratification from it then no, it's not worth it. If the car is what you want then make it what you dream of!

Case and point: I have over $17k in my weekend car, and I stupidly tried to sell it a while back...couldn't even get $10k for it. That's ok though, because I would have kicked my own ass if I had sold it!:D

So far....big16g, act flywheel, act2100 clutch, sbr lsd, prothane motor mounts, the balance shafts, emissions equipment, power steering, and air conditioning removed, hacked MAF, SBR Boost Controller, stock fuel system :barf: . Just waiting for tax return time!

That engine bay looks pretty clean. You say 240k on the chasis, what about the motor? Depending on the condition of the body and the motor, you could ask yourself the possibilities of an AWD shell.

jdm motor, so unkown milage. I had the internals checked out and my mechanic said everything looked to be in great condition when i had the balance shafts removed and had a new timing belt put on. i was thinking about getting a 2g talon awd shell to transfer everything over from my fwd to that.

absolutly beautiful man.. thats very clean. one of a few clean showroom looking engine bays and even the rest of the car
