Tonight when I was an about to drive and I switched the headlight to turn them on, the high beams turned on with the symbol appearing on the dashboard as well. I went to check and the low beams are not turning on at all, it just goes straight to the high beams. Could it be that both bulbs just got burnt out or is there another issue behind this?

That sounds like normal operation. You either run high or low beams. They never run simultaneously. Now if you switch off high beams and low beams do not return, then yes those are possibly burnt out.

Are you sure? I don't have my Eclipse any more but I'm almost certain the low beams always come on whether highs are on or not. And looking in the electrical diagrams it shows it's wired that way. The headlight relay supplies power to one side of both hi and low beams. The other side of the low beams goes to ground so they should always come on with the headlight relay. So I would say you have either bad ground connections to the body for the low beams, or bad low beams to ground wires, or bad bulbs, or most likely bad bulb contact connections in their sockets.

I may be remembering my 1g. I do recall holding the stalk halfway to try and get them both on at same time.

Correct, you have to hold the stalk to run them both at once. I have LED low beams and halogen high beams, it’s a stark color contrast going from low to high beam because the halogens are definitely a bright yellow compared to led
