I purchased my first DSM back a couple of months ago for $900 its a 97 Eagle Talon ESi. It was stolen and ran without NO OIL. It has loud knocking and the transmission will not shift and smokes horrible. I want to rebuild the whole motor. New pistons new head etc. what parts will i need to do a complete a rebuild. I want to know if i can use my same block. Umm I already got AEM cam gears and new pistons. What else what I need and I need help on how to pull the old motor. I also got a tranny on hold for me. This is a automatic by the way? its way too much to do a automatic to manual conversion. so I want to rebuild it boost it and sell it. I'm doing all this my self since all my friends are hondamotor heads and want touch it. Please any advice helps thanks.

If you're just rebuilding it to sell it and make a little profit I would just do a stock rebuild and sell her. Once you start building it and trying to turbo it you'll be way upside down when you sell it.

If you do not have a book on the car, I'd suggest getting one before attempting this. You'll need the torque specs and such for the rebuild on the engine. It will also give you a step-by-step instructions on pulling the engine. But generally, in short, what's involved is unplugging all the sensors, fuel connections, intake, exhaust and hoses, loosing the engine mounts and dropping it. On these cars it's easier to drop the engine and trans as an assembly and then sneak it our from under the car.

Personally, if I was in your position looking to 'flip' the car, I'd get the rebuilt done stock and sell it that way, like someone already said, you will never get your money back out of the car if you want to start modding... Wait to mod 'til you have the DSM you're going to keep, just my 2 cents

+1 on the no profit from modding. Maybe you could call around to local junkyards and just slam a whole new engine in, and not worry about all the fuss rebuilding the original one. New engines are usually not too expensive from junkyards...

+2 YOU WILL NEVER GET YOUR MONEY BACK FROM MODDING YOUR CAR. iF YOU ARE GOING TO SELL IT AND GET WHAT YOU WANT. JUST BUILD IT STOCK. AND THE JUNKYARD IS DEFINITELY ONE OF YOUR BEST FRIENDS WHEN IT COMES TO PARTS.

alright well thanks ill purchase a haynes manual as soon as i get more money and yea the turbo is out of though and ill go ahead and do a stock rebuild. i pulled most of the clips and got the exhaust out just waitng on the cherry picker to come in so i can lift the car. thanks for all the help ill post pics as i got to make sure im doing everything correct.

If you're uncertain about pulling the engine out of the car, I suggest not even getting into the engine internals. It may be easier for u to just drop in a used engine.

that's what i'd do. grab a 420a engine from something else and throw it in there to sell...

It sounds like you might have over-paid. What's the going rate for Talons where you live?

Edit: Looked on Craigslist in your state, guess I'm lucky to live in California. DSM's seem much more common here. Best of luck with your project, I hope you can save the car from going to the junk yard.

Did you file an insurance claim when it was stolen? If so Why don't you just use that cash to buy a fwd or awd turbo?

I only got $1300 and that's it. An AWD Talon here goes for about $3500-$4000. I really love my talon even if it's slow and automatic. I plan on keeping my baby now. It may sound stupid but i grown attached to this car.
