Hello all. Yes, I'm a noobie, I know. You're probably thinking this guy didn't use the search bar and is going to ask a lot of questions. Lol. I used the search bar, found little info and yes, I have millions of questions but keeping it super short and simple.

Is the turbine housing still good? It's cracked as shown in the pictures.

Overall turbo, is it in good shape to you? Looks fine to me. But yet again, it's my first turbo I've ever bought in my life! No shaft play whatsoever. Got it at a yard sale for $30! I know right, YARD SALE!

And will anything happen if I try to port the turbine side to open a little bigger even though it is crack? If it is, I'll leave it alone and just try and run it.

And sorry for the so easy simple questions in the whole world even a 5 year old can answer. Lol. About time I'm going to install a turbo into my car. Pretty excited. And please don't tell me any bad news.

If it has no shaft play, you got an amazing deal. Thats a 14b, they come stock on the 1g cars. That hotside looks pretty rough though, thats a pretty large crack in the exhaust housing. Good find. I wouldn't port it at all if the housing is cracked, taking more material off an area of a cracked cast housing isn't a good idea. Just run it as is if that crack isn't going to vent exhaust.

Turbine housing looks cracked. Can you take another pic of the waistgate area. It's where the flapper is. And a pic of it open. Need to see if the crack extends past flap. If it does I would say the turbine is crap.
Also hold the center section and push/pull the wheel to check for in and out play. Also check side to side play. I would drip some oil down the oil feed and spin the wheel. Just want to make sure you have some oil in it before testing.

If I had a dollar for every 14b hotside I seen like that I would be rich. I would just run itncheck the shaft play. Its not worth rebuiling a 14b just run it. As long no boost leaks aka loud whistling and no smoke it should be good.

looks fine i had one that cracked like that and it till ran fine... then i upgraded to a big 16g which was awesome

Looks cracked like everyone else has said. if no shaft play at all is a good deal.

Slap a 16g 7cm^ hotside on it for some better top end, they are kind of hard to come by but you should be able to pick one up for 50 dollars or so if you search, try to get real MHI, not ebay junk.

I've never seen a problem with eBay turbine housings. I've ran them on 14bs and my buddy has been running one I put on his 14b for over 2 years.

Op you could probably run that housing fine for awhile. If it doesn't have shaft play throw it on and run it until you can get another hotside, it should be fine.

Actually some people have had good luck with the ebay version, me being one of them. This was however a few years back. Some people then ran into a bad batch of them. (Paul aka "gstracer") If i am correct I believe the casting was off, meaning the bolt holes didnt line up as normal.

Like Paul stated its a gamble, but in my opinion most things are online.

If you don't want to get one from eBay and take the chance, you can talk to the guys from turbo lab on facebook, one of the owners is a member here I'll get you his name or email if you decide you want to talk to him about ordering a 7cm housing and not have to worry about it not bolting on.
