I started my car up a few days ago and it was idling horribly rough and i could smell gas out of the muffler so i was running very rich and my car seemed horrible misfiring and backfiring and had a HUGE power loss and was eating gas like crazy so i drove it 2 my mechanic and let it sit for about 2 hours....I come back to crank it up it doesnt start....we check the compression and its 0 0 0 0..checked the timing belt and it was intact but he noticed that I jumped timing due to the alignment on the pulleys he said. So He said I probably busted a piston or bent my valves.........he said i might want ot give it a shot and redo my timing belt, tensioner, bs belt etc and see if to give it a shot..you think i shoudl do that or just pull the head?

there was only 6000 miles in new engine with 6000 on timing belt....so i have no idea what could cause this......errr.......just let me kno onw hat you guys think i should do thanks..

he is more that likely right on the valves. when your timing belt goes or jumps your pistons fall to the botom and your valves can shoot into the motor hitting the pistons. i had the same problem with mine and i bent 8 valves and had to have to whole top half rebuilt. :notgood: $$$

Ps if this is accurate info please give rep points I am trying to become a registered member. thanx and I hope you get it ifxed soon.

The pistons don't fall and the valves don't shoot into the motor. Simply when the timing belt jumps or breaks the valves are open at the wrong time. (that's why it is called a timing belt- it maintains the proper timing of the valves opening/closing compared to the up and down action of the piston). The piston comes into contact with the open valve, bending the valve stems thus preventing the valves from closing completely and viola, no compression as it escapes out the unclosed valves.

Fool 904- If the timing marks are indeed off you have a few choices. 1) do a leak check to verify that there is no problem with the valves. This would be pretty easy to do. 2) Reinstall the timing belt correctly and do a compression test. 3) Realize that you most likely bent the valves and have the head removed and valves replaced.

I'd do #1 since it takes little time, but seems to always results in #3 :(

Damn that is how it was explained to me by the guy that fixed my car when it did the same thing. :coy: hummm that is what i get for letting someone who cant speak english try to explain it to me. No offense to anyone who cant. But hey at least i tried. Well i hope that you fix your problem and ill keep reading what the experts say and learn form them. :p
