I just bought a 90 talon tsi awd 5spd it has the td04 13g i want to upgrade to a 14b but im wondering if maybe the car had an engine swap from a A/T dsm and if it has the smaller exhaust manifold and the A/T cams how can i tell if it has the 5spd motor or the A/T motor and what are the other differences

They did.
In fact, there was no such animal as a 1990 AWD with Automatic transmission.

Are you sure you have a 13g turbo?

There are many things to check that might indicate that the engine may have been swapped for a later year model...Check your ECU serial number first.
90s differ from other 6 bolt years mostly in electrical issues, not mechanical. What is more likely to have happened is the original stock 14b went bad, and was simply replaced with a smaller 13g, either by accident or necessity.

FYI, automatics also came with 390cc injectors, rather than the m/t's 450cc. Other than that, and the turbo obviously, differences are minimal.

It has the injectors with the blue tops and i read those are the 450s which means it probably was just a turbo swap right

That's the most likely scenario, yes.
