I have a 20g with a 16g turbine wheel and here is the deal. I'm getting a motor completely rebuilt with forged internals and I have a choice to get new kelford 264 cam combo and new manley springs or I can get used 272 kelfords, used manley springs and used titianum retainers with around 1300 miles and have seen the track about 30 or so times for 30 bucks cheaper. This is my dd and is a street car that might see the track every blue moon and won't see above 8k shifts ever. Will the 272's be too much for this turbo setup or should I go new 264 combo and new springs without the retainers?

1300 miles isnt much though and kelford 272s is supposed to be one of the best sets of cams and the 20g is gonna spool fast enough to not notice the spool difference between the two cams

Unless your main interest is drag racing (which it sounds like its not), I'd probably go with the Kelford 264's. They will likely have the most useful powerband with that turbo (& what you typically use for street driving with some track fun from time to time).

I run the 264's with my DSM82HTA (or billet 35R) & think their still a great match when your goal isn't just peak, top end power for drag racing. My limiter is currently set @ 8500 & its easy to bounce of it in 1st & second, third gear I like to shift ~8200, but its still pulling hard.

Your upper end power will likely be more limited by your turbo choice & not the Kelford cams. I did pick up some top end power when going from the 30R to the 35R (same cams)

With that said, what do you think about the 272? I already choose them a couple days ago, because people say they are streetable also.

Wouldn't be my choice for your turbo & goals for reasons stated above but I'm sure you'll be fine with them, lots of DSMers run way more cam then they need. It may not give you as large of a powerband vs the 264's but the top end should feel stong (that is if your turbo can keep up with the flow demand).

I have to agree with Daren on this one. That 20g is going to run out of breath pretty fast. 272's while they may help top end flow will more than likely will offer no benefit with the turbo that you have.

Personally if It were my car and I was building it with a 20g it would be all about trying to maximize torque. 272's would defeat that but the 264's will net you more torque and umph down low.

What rpm range would be considered low and what would be considered high of the powerband? I figure it varies, just a general idea. All in all will I be hurting performance with these cams?
