Car idles fine when I go long distance and stop but when I go short distance like stop and go on stop lights or traffic I get a high idle problem? Can anyone please help?

Thanks

my car does the same thing, im currently in search of the problem as well.
im pointing my finger at the Fast Idle Air Valve inside the throttle body, im only assuming since ive narrowed that down to be my problem more than likely.
check for vac leaks, egr valve, isc motor, clean the tb (most likely not the problem, but cant hurt).
idle problems on these things can be a biitch sometimes

I've done some of those things already. Got new vacum lines, clean the throttle and still does the same things. My car is giving me a headache. Does your car still high idles?

I had an intermitent high idle problem my solution was at the temp sensor. The connector was so dirty it was fooling the ecu into thinking the sensor was good. Cleaned and reconnected it the ecu threw me the code for the sensor being bad. Checked it with an ohm meter and sure enough the thing was toast. Replaced the sensor and redid the wire on the harness cause it was so broken down from all the heat and years the wires basically disintigrated at the end of the plug.

The temp sensor was causing my engine to run rich as hell. It was like I was at WOT all the time the mixture put my o2 readings at .98-1.0 all the time. The car also would not start after shut down because the engine was leaving too much unburnt fuel in the chamber.

My car does the same thing. It wouldn't start because too much unburnt fuel was in the chamber. What sensor is that? temp sensor? Sorry I know the basics but where is that located?

Where is the idle surge and temp sensor located on a 2nd gen dsm? Does anyone have a diagram for me?

My idle problems occured due to the BIS screw. (Base Idle Sensor screw.) I don't know if that's your issue, or even if a 2g has them/where they're located, but I know that's all my problem was. Good luck.

In a 1g its the one on the bottom left of the thermostat housing when looking from the front of the car. When you take the plug off the pins are perpindicular to each other (like an L)

mine does this, too
a few DSM friends told me it's the gasket between the TB and the intake. I'm replacing it tomorrow. I'll let you know. I already replaced the TPS and the ICS and the TB.
