Hello,

I recently purchased a 94 eclipse gsx
99 k on car,jdm motor with about 60K on it.

Has larger evo III turbo
3"down pipe aswell as all the way back

He sold it to me for $1000,i thought this was a good deal,i just had to sell my 04-srt-4 and wanted something awd to play with

Anyhow according to the owner it was diagnosed with a bad headgasket,Oil in the water,no water in the oil.The car starts up but wants to die unless you hold the gas a bit, while your trying to move it around it also spudders and seems like its misfiring.Doesnt overheat at all and when warmed up runs a bit better.
took to my local mech and he did a compression check,175 psi across all 4 cyls.plugs were really fouled, seems to be running rich.
No CEL or trouble codes.
no overheating or smoking unless you floor it then a little black puff

any help

thanx
Don

Ok the idiot owner before you put a filter on the recirc tube of the intake. Thats just......terrible. Where does your BOV recirc to? You will want the BOV to blow back into the intake. Thats just nuts...get some more shots of that filter there by the turbo LOL and dont drive you car.

You name said not available ??

EDIT double checked the other pics and you are deffinately venting. You also deffinately have a filter where air that in NOT meterd is getting sucked in a screwing you all up. Get a hose to go from the outlet of the BOV to the hole on the intake and throw that filter away.

could i block it temp??

Yes that would even be better than whats going on now....its sucking in so much air that the motor doesnt know about and you probably running lean....the mas is doing the same thing.

I would pull the filter and get a cap or strong duct tape to seal that off. Your invitation for a chat was blocked...my comp is over protective. Its weird just regular IM isnt working

Tomorrow I would get some tubing from home depot or something else like that by you and recirc the BOV back...you know what I mean right? Also shop around for an unhacked mas OR an SAFC and a DATALogger and Injectors. I would get the MAS for now. See how everything works after the Recirc tube is installed correctly though, I bet you will see a world of difference. The plumbing section does wonders. THeres mini 1 inch elbows and 45 degree bends you can use to make sure you can get a hose to fit. Just a heads up.

just spoke with the previous again,he claims that filter has been on it for along time and it didnt effect anything he says its a mod thats been done many of times on other forums.

Hes an Idiot.... Think about it. The MAS reads air and takes that info and calculates how much fuel is needed for that amount of air. If the filter is sucking in all the air after the mas there will be no fuel for the air and you will be lean. Especially a hole like that. AND you have the lower honey combs removed which means even more air is getting in the ECU.

Other can do this, but they have a logger to watch what the motor does and make corrections by richening things up to run a perfect A/F.

SInce you cant do that, this really isnt an option for you yet. The previous owner just isnt smart or didnt read enough.

*EDIT* Well the ecu does all the calculations, but its still the MAS's readings that have to be accurate. which yours are not at all.

i may try to plug up both of the openings tomorrow.
If you know of a way to send you these clips so you can hear it let me know

Wait, dont plug up the BOV hole. That needs to let pressure out....only its supposed to go to the intake again. Plug the hole on the intake and dont mess with the mass....you will suck what you put there in the turbo. Call local junk yards for the MAS, but dont put anything in the intake.. there alot of sucking power.

Some one get the thread where the guy was revving his motor and his hand go sucked into the turbo and it ate his middle finger. He had a blow through set up. Hes allowed to not run a MAS before the turbo :p

There a lot of echo.....push it out of the garage and take a vid, but itsnot even worth it with out that other stuff fixed.

ya the filter on the intake is the reason why your idle is crappy, as for your antifreeze that definitly doesnt look good but if youve got good compresson i wouldnt jump to the headgasket, try flushing and filling you coolent system with some new antifreeze and see what that does, to tell you the truth that antifreeze looks like some one added some of that liqued head gasket sealent fixer shit in it(which doesnt work by the way) that might be the problim, if so my freind you just got one of the best deals of a lifetime, a 94 awd with low miles and all it needed it a recirulation tube and a flush and fill for $1000 bucks! damn! as nepolean dynamite would say "you got pegs, shocks, lucky!":thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I'm still going to say that the internal oil cooler is bad. I had the exact same thing happen to me when mine went bad. Because the oil pressure is so much higher than the coolant pressure it forces oil into the coolant but not vice versa. It's a cheap fix and easy to do. Just make sure you don't overtighten the bolt and filter when putting everything back together.

Chances are the same guy who thought it would be a good idea to put a breather on the intake also decided to change the oil on his own and figured you might as well tighten the oil filter down as tight as you can get it.

Also, I still have that mass airflow sensor for dirt cheap if you're looking for a new one.

true true i didnt think of the oil cooler, thats probibly it, well its worth changing that anyways just as a precaution since its cheap and easy to change, after words change your oil(mobil 10-30 had always been good to me) and flush and fill you antifreeze and you should be cool:cool:

Well, I had one go bad on me, so I bought this one off a friend. It probably has around 80,000 miles on it, but it was working perfect. I upgraded to GM MAFT so I don't need it, and I'm only looking for $35 for it, the air can, and the K&N filter.

made a leak tester today
plugged up where that filter was, still spudders
the only leak i could find was the hose to the bov had a small crack so i fixed it.The other came from the throttle body,a very small leak, took almost 10psi to make it leak.
i did however drive the car for the first time,Seems like it wants to boost too fast.
only time it cuts out is when im taking off from a stop or shifting low rpm's.I have to over throttle to get it to move so it doesnt cut out.
Also noticed that the BISS screw seems really loose, like it could almost move with the vibration of the car

might have someone local with a mas o might be getting,we'll see

Boosting to fast is a good sign :sneaky: What plugs are you running and what are they gapped to? How old are your wires? I wouldnt write anything in stone untill your LEAK FREE, meaning take off the TB. Clean it, replace the seals and use RTV to reinstall....No leaks. Then get a mas with all the honey combs and recirc the BOV. The 1G leaks at idle even.
All together this should take you half a day, if you have a freeday and then let the RTV sit over night before you do another boostleak test. The RED RTV is the best. Read the directions to use it right. Apply...then 1/2 tighten the bolt and let sit for I think 30 minutes and it will rubberize then torque the down and it will spread the rubber RTV all around and be leak free. The it wll fully cure over night.

well i found a mas locally for $50
installed it along with a new bov hose
new plugs

was able to drive it a few miles,A small hose near the throttle body exploded

so far it seems very driveable, once i get this hose replaced i will get a good run in and hopefully it will survive

Nice, and what exlpoded by the TB? You may want to reset the ecu, because the ecu and fuel trims may have been trying to compensate for all that stupidness that was going on in the motor Just un hook the negtive terminal for about 15 minutes then hook it back up. Goodluck and keep us posted.

1 of the 2 small coolant hoses under the throttlebody, one has already been replaced.

The only thing next is the chocolate milkshake i have for radiator fluid.

Anyone have more info on replacing the oil cooler unit?
been looking around but no one has mentioned prices or where to buy

is it dificult?

i know i can do it,
But people keep saying its a cheap fix.None of the parts places around here even know what im talking about, the dealer says $400 ordered about 2 weeks
