I'm looking to purchase an ext oil cooler kit. Getting everything together w/stainless steel lines and -an fittings will be kinda pricey for me, so I'm considering a kit with those cheaper hoses. I was looking at this kit from ford racing. Anybody have any experience with it? I like the idea that it doesn't need an additional thermostat to bypass the cooler on colder days/startups. Also, I was looking at this kit . If anybody has any experience with either one of these kits or has some kind of suggestion, please respond. Thanks.

Also, I am going to do a 6 bolt swap soon with a 90 oil filter housing, so no worries there about unfiltered oil bypassing the filter.

Let me see if I can help you out. First off, you dont need SS lines for your oil cooler, although you might want them. Instead of spending your money on stainless lines spend the money on the cooler itself. Now I don't know your budget but if it's what im ASSuming it is, your better off spending your money on the necessities, fittings and cooler, rather than(but not wasting money) on stainless steel lines. Plenty of guys here have run aftermarket coolers on rubber hose, hell if mitsu is selling them from the factory (1990), they have to be able to withstand a descent amount of pressure, right. All I'm saying is, that when it comes to oil cooling, the wisest money is spent on the cooler itself and the fitting going into and out of it, rubber hose will withstand the pressure in the lines.

I used rubber hose for a long time. Just recently switched to SS, and it was mainly because I got them dirt cheap (pretty much free). Never had a problem with the rubber ones.

The second kit you posted doesn't look too bad, mine is actually smaller then that I beleive

Cool, this info is good to know. Also, since I live in a relatively colder area, I'd probably need a thermostat also, correct? Also, my budget would be around $150-200. Are there any comments on the ford racing kit? It has an internal cold oil bypass thingy that eases the install a little more. Thanks for the replies.

One more question: which would be a better setup for both an oil cooler and relocation of the filter? I'm not sure what the B&M kit looks like when it is done.
