Hey guys,
i will remove my entire infinity system cause it sounds bad and it's missing the CD changer. Also i need an aux input player to plug-in my MiniDisk. I will be using this player as the amp for the speakers. I plan to rewire the wires in the car to do this so, what is the easiest way to do this? I mean where should i tie the wires together, meaning using where they meet at the infinity amp or some other way.

A step by step would be useful too, like things i need and instructions.

Thanks

i'd cut all the wires and then use a 12v tester to the speaker wire. when it pops you know which one it is.
example

you see a bunch of wires, and you use your 12v tester, and you stick it to a wire and the front right one pops... so mark that wire as "white" because thats the aftermarket wiring colors. Then when you go to hook up your aftermarket cd player, you wont need to rerun wire through the vehicle.... just from the aftermarket cd player to the place where the wires are cut, then its basic from there.... white to white...red to red... purple to purple... etc.

make sense? did i make it sound confusing?

How much of a system are you putting in? Is it going to be a trim-rattler, or just something to get music out of? If you're just putting in a "good" sound system, and intend to have normal-level conversations in your sixties, you can get an adapter that'll let you hook up another stereo to the factory harness.

If you're going hog-wild, and actually believe Monster Cable is worth putting in a car, all bets are off. This may be a place for you to start:

It's just car wiring, there's very little magic in a sound system. Just enough to baffle me.

I plan on just putting one of those aftermarket din sized headunits, probably aiwa with front aux input cause most of my music is on minidisk. I bought some replacement speakers audiopipe for the rear, audiobahn for the front($30 for both form a buddy).

I already have those wired. Thing is i want to eliminate the amp completely since it sounds bad to me. So i need to cut the wires from the back of the stock Headunit and from the amp, then match the wires from the back of the Headunit to the wiring harness for the aftermarket CD player and match together the wires on the amp where they meet, meaning the ones that went to the amp stock to the ones that went out, cut at both ends and put together?

Am i ok so far?

Try wiring up the head unit like you normally would, then disconnecting the power to the external amp. I believe there may be a fuse for it under the dash (labeld "AMP" or "EXT AMP"). I can't test this right now, as I'm between owning DSMs.

In theory, the signals will pass through the amp without being amplified, (if its a passive amp, which most factory systems are). Also, if the wattage of your head unit is greater than the wattage of the amp, the amp will have no effect, as the final wattage is whatever the biggest amp puts out.

Basically what I'm saying is you may not have to do anything at all, try hooking up the stereo and seeing how it sounds before you go any further.

I believe they sell a amp by-pass at Best Buy for like 30 bucks. Takes care of the Infinity system completly. You dont need to run new wires if you want good sound, just replace the headunit, speakers, and grab the amp by-pass.

I had the same problem. Well kind of. What to do is goin to any car audio store and by a wiring harnse for a 95-99 eclipse or talon. *usually around 20 bucks* take out your stock cd player. *imporant !! don't cut any wires* then the harness your bought should just plug right into the plug you pulled out of your stock cd player. this way you know you have the right one. next unplug it and wire it to your new cd player harness. now you have no cut your stock wires in anyway *which is allways a bad thing* next just take your passger seat out and unplug the stock amp and take it out. *you do not have to do this, your cd player will power you speakers but i did just so i didn't have it under the seat anymore* there ya go. thats all there is to it.

also if you want new speakers and just wanted to power them off your cd head unit. you do not have to do anything different. and harness you wired before it allready run to the speakers without the amp, if you want to amp them then just pm if you need any help.

hope I exlpained that well enough if not let me know, and i'll try to fix it.

In theory or any other way signals will not pass through an unpowered amp.No power to the output transistors=No sound. All 6 speaker wires meet at the plug under the seat.Use a double A or a triple A battery to identify the speakers, and connect them to the wires coming from the headunit, very simple, should take less than 20 min.If have have already replaced the speakers, then it should be a simple as matching up wire colors(colors at the speakers to colors at the underseat plug and colors at the under seat plug to colors on the stock deck plug).

DO i need this harness?

i'd rather cut and crimp.

Also i am looking trough crutchfield and when i put in my car model it says that the head-unit i want doesn't fit. With the single din install kit shouldnt i be able to put in any single din radio i want?

You really don't need a kit, the brackets on the stock deck will mount to the aftermarket deck, you'll have an open din space, but thats easy to deal with.I usually just put a piece of ABS plastic in to cover the hole. The deck will fit, some aftermarket decks need the back of the trim ring shaved though.
