about 3 weeks ago i snapped a rear axle off in the differential while launching the car a the drags well i thought everthing would be fine if i just replaced the axle. but now i replaced it and if i gradually accelerate the car moves but if i try to get in it (full throttle)
the motor just revs and the car doesnt move...(it sorta feel like a bad clutch feeling, but i know its not that.) i know its something in the drivetrain.....anyone who has any suggestions please reply to this and let me know what is causing this....

thank you in advanced

by the way its a 1991 AWD talon tsi :talon:

Hmm, it seems that you might have blown the clutch to shreds like I did :D. After a while you'll totally lose all ability to move the car then with time you'll be able to clutch it, start the car, and run through your gears w/o the clutch. Of course you won't move, but you'll still be able to do it.

Good Luck

Did you replace it with the correct axle? If you have the rear LSD you need the axles that go with otherwise the viscous coupler tries to shift power to the wheel it thinks isn't slipping (because it's disconnected) and you get the problem you described. The car moves under light loads but seems like it has a blown clutch under anything but the lightest acceleration.

It is most possibly your clutch, but if you have the resources drop the transfer case and check the PTO splines, they could have gone south on you.

thanks guys but how can i tell if its the wrong axle or not anyone got any pics ?????

How about you tell us which side broke and where?
Look at the door jam and tell us if you have an orange sticker saying you have rear LSD and look at the rear diff for the label since there is no telling what might have been swapped over time.
Do you still have the stock 3 bolt rear end?

Steve

itis a lsd and yes it is the right axle i found out because the passenger side axle looks exactly like the other one but i relized tha when i replaced the axle when i checked again the axle wasnt all the way in the differential, so i try to put the good axle from the passengers side in the drivers side and it wouldnt go in either....

my conclusion is that i think when the axle snapped(twisted/broke) in the differential i think i messed up the differential....

please let me know what you guys think...

did you drive the car at all with the broken axel?
i have a feeling your VC is toast

i dunno but the 2 axles are the same do did the guy send me the wrong axle???

and now on the other hand on a non lsd diff are the axles the same, becuase if thats the case then he could of sent me and axle out of a non lsd diff???

and yes i did drive with the broken axle for a lil bit

do you think my diff is messed up or since the axles match up and i have a lsd then do you think i got the wrong axle...

Here ya go. Might want to get a shop manual, a lot of good stuff in it.
