help picking fuel pump and injectors for my 2.3l hx40 build

Ok so I'm finally getting close to that time where I need to finish my fuel system up on my car and get it ready for my jmf topmount manifold to be in the mail in the next few weeks. I'm trying to pick my injectors and fuel pump since I know my old setup from my big 16g won't be enough for my goals. I been a lurker on here for years but I don't post much.

My car is a 98 gsx, I have:

Motor:
2.3l 6 bolt bored .20 over
Ross piston eagle rods 9:1 compression
all ARP hardware

Head:
6 bolt head
1mm oversized Ferra valve freshly rebuilt
BC 280 cams
BC springs
BC adjustable cam gears
ARP head studs with stock MLS gasket

Fuel:
-8an feed, -6 return all steel braided
FIC fuel rail
Aeromotive AFPR
Walbro 255 fuel pump
PTE 1200cc injectors
The fuel hats have had new lines brazed on them and the siphon has been ported out

Turbo:
Holset hx40 freshly rebuilt 19cm exhaust housing
JMF Fabrication divided t4 top mount turbo manifold
Twin 40 mm Synapse waste gates

Drivetrain:
Mostly stock for now with solid sub frame bushings and all new poly suspension bushings, soon to have evo brakes, 6 puck un-sprung act clutch with act2900 pressure plate and act flywheel

I know my Walbro 255 will not be enough fuel pump, so I have been looking at the new Walbro 450lph. I am trying to figure out right now if that single fuel pump will be enough to reach over 700hp, I want to do all this once and be done with it, but not get to out of hand like a mechanical pump. I know my injectors will be enough to maybe get me around 400-450 with methanol injection, but I was looking at maybe some 2160's or bigger.

All advice is appreciated.

A 450lph or twin 255's will be sufficient to reach your goals. Injector-wise it all depends on whether you are wanting to go pump gas or e85. Go e85, get the Hi-z 2150s, and be done with it.

I was hoping a single pump would be sufficient, and the 450 being e85 safe was making me lean towards it. The closets e85 store in almost an hour away, but i want to be able to run anything.
 
I was under the impression it was a 600-650 HP turbo. 60-69lb/min airflow depending on the compressor wheel. How much boost are you going to run? I say try the 450 in-tank and if its not enough then add an in-line later on. The 450 should take you pretty far IMO.

I have a 255HP which is close to maxed out at about 53-55lb/min airflow and 35 psi boost. I have a Kenne Bell BAP and run 38psi base FP with a 60% E-85 blend. I was leaning out up top running 44 psi base FP, so I just turned it down and the problem went away.

I know this is off topic, but you said all advice is appreciated. You might want to look into an upgraded transmission. I have broken 4 OEM ones with my HX-35 on a 2.0. I know the HX-40 spools slower, but 700HP is a tall order for an OEM trans!

The more i read, the better an automatic tranny looks for high HP apps. Even built manuals can and do fail.
To your original question: Agreed, 450lph and the biggest injectors you can afford. Just so you dont have to upgrade later.
 
Since no one is backing up arguments with any data. Here is a thread for e85 flow rates, seems 1600's or bigger will be necessary for you with a 2.3 and hx40 to max the setup out. Fuel pumps would require either twin 255's or a 255 with an inline pump at the least. For 93oct pump here is a thread with flow rates. I doubt you'll actually be able to use 93 to max the set up but it may be of use still. :thumb:
 
Well for e85 you'll definitely need more than jus a 450. I have a 450 and a 255 in line and my IDC is 7x percent.

well honestly i thought about doing twin intake 450lph, but for now do a single and see if i will need a second. I would rather keep the fuel pumps in the tank and not use one inline, I know alot of people use inline pumps but i just like having both in tank.

I'm buying it more for the fact that it flows like crazy, that e-85 thing is just a added bonus for now.

I'm going to be running twin 265. If you want to run e85 then you will need 2150. But on pump gas 1600cc should do.

Yeah, the turbo should be able to make that kind of hp :). The turbo is a 8 blade hx40 with a 19cm compressor cover, it's completely stock and freshly rebuilt from cummins :D. honestly right now I was looking arounf 25 pounds of boost, but I gotta be easy on my drivetrain till i build it up, it's on the list of things to do. I have actually been looking at a jacks transmission tranny or shep, and a upgraded transfer case with a welded center diff and upgraded rear end housing. I appreciate your concerns but I been doing my homework on this build. This car is gonna be more of a street warrior for now, so I'm not gonna beat the hell out it till I get the drivetrain upgraded.

well I have maxed out an hx40 with my setup on e85 with enough fuel. (Made 680whp @40psi). I have 2 bosch044s and FIC 2150s.

damn, thats the numbers I would like to see on mine, just need to upgrade the drivetrain to support it.

I have been reading about automatics, but as of right now this car will be on the street more than at the track, so for right now im gonna stay 5 speed. I enjoy shifting gears, and putting a automatic in to me would be a bad idea, but to each his own you know.
