Help on New Clutch (still in box)

I just got a new exedy clutch from the dsmgraveyard and I had a question. I can't figure out how to get everything apart to put onto the engine! Here is a pic of what came. It seems there are no bolts to remove... am I missing something?? It said it came with the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disk (complete unit like the stock one).

the last picture is focused on the area where the bolts should be, but what looks like round studs. Any help is greatly appreciated

That appears to be just a pressure plate and clutch disk. The round studs that you are referring to are rivets and should not be removed.

did it come with out a ring gear? the studs are just another way to make sure everything is aligned. it should come apart rather easily with a hint of persuasion. But just a hint.

the rivets go through the pressure plate and disk, and it said it came with the flywheel . I called them and they said they would get back to me. I'll call again tomorrow. But as far as the disk and plate go shouldn't it of come with 6 bolts to mount the disk to the wheel and the plate to the disk?

the circled area with no writing is what I think of when you say rivet. Is the second one where the bolt is supposed to go? It did not come with any bolts...

that is the clutch and flywheel from the looks of it the 420a has a modular unit so you don't need an alignment tool just unbolt the old unit and bolt the new one on to the flexplate and your done

yeah my question is where do the bolts go? I only see those rivets and the package didn't come with any bolts

Fun kart kid is right, the 420a uses a modular clutch or "clutch pack" as I've heard it called. The bolts to hold it on will go through the empty holes on the outside of the pressure plate (the ones you pointed to with the red arrow). But basically the pressure plate, friction disk, and the friction surface the disk grabs to is all one piece. It all bolts up to another "flywheel" that is bolted to the engine's crankshaft. Really to me it more resembles a flexplate like the torque converter would bolt to in an automatic. Basically the same setup too, except its a clutch and flywheel bolting to it if that makes sense. You'll see where it bolts up when you get the transmission off and look at it. It may be a good idea to get some new bolts for the clutch pack though. I'm sure you could get a set from the dealer.

The 420a uses a modular clutch so there's is no need to take everything apart. The flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate bolt on to the flexplate via 4 short bolts, and the flexplate bolts on to the crankshaft. If the transmission is still on the car, infront of the bell housing there will be an aluminum cover. Remove that cover to expose the bolts that connect the flywheel to the flexplate. Once you have removed those bolts just push the clutch assembly towards the trans and remove the trans. When reinstalling the clutch make sure to grease the tob or it will be noisy. Once the transmission has been tightened down, push the clutch fork towards the driver side to bring the clutch assembly towards the flexplate. Sometimes lining up the holes on the flexplate and flywheel is a pain but take your time and have patience. You're also going to need to rotate the engine as your doing this so a socket and ratchet on the crankshaft pulley will do.

thanks for the detail replies, I understand it much better now and see whats up. Since the eclipse is my DD I'm waiting till Sunday to install it. I will update with any further questions and pics of the process.
