Help.. Neons shorting?!

I have the coral pink Streetglow Gold Series underbody neons. A few months ago my friends (trying to help out with my stupid Venom module) carelessly unhooked a wire from the neons to the battery, which ended up shorting out the transformer. Anyways, finally 2 months later, a new transformer and new side neon later (one broke off and i had to buy a new one ), and a new fuse, they're still not working! They turn on for not even a full second and short off again. You have to wait a minute to get even that second of power, you can't just switch it on and off repetedly and get results every time. It's not my battery, or alternator, or fuse. Does anybody have ANY suggestions at all?! I need to get these back up and running before dad finds out what's going on! . You need to undo all the connections and make sure there is no moisture in there, that was the problem with mine. I broke on also so i ordered a new one and redid every connection and it worked perfect, Also make your transformer is grounded right. Good luck.

That's what sucks about underbody kits.. They have a habit of shorting out. Just like the other post I've had 2 sets short out from moisture getting in... Ended up having to toss both of them.

I will almost guarentee its your transformer, i have had more than one set of neons from streetglow and their transformers tend to go out. Also where did you hook the power wire too? Did you go strait to the batter or did you tie it into a factory wire. If you tied it into a factory you might have burnt up the wire. Ive seen that happen before too. Run it to your battery. hope this helps. Oh yeah try tapping on your transformer and see if they come on, sometimes if its not all the way bad the lights will blink and you will know its that, but I would try sending it back theres a lifetime warrenty on it so why not.

Originally it was the transformer. However I got a new one, and hooked that up with the new neon and now they're still shorting. As posted by Sic95GST, we went through ALL the connections and redid them. Still shorting. The neons aren't trashed thought I know, because for about 3 minutes they did work, then we were messing around with something up front and something must have touched something and they shorted again. Oh and the power wire is directly hooked to the battery, not the factory wire. Hmm what else is there.. the fuse is good, the switch is good too. I have noo idea what it could be

It could still be the transformer, I have had 2 friends send back a few transformers before they got one that worked. Im not saying that is definatly it but it is a very common problem with streetglow. Are any of your bulbs cracked? Sometimes even if they get just a small crack in them they can leak and make them not work. My first set I had had a small crack on one bulb and they didnt work. Well not on the actual bulb the plastic casing the bulb is in. Pm me if you still cant get them to work.

Ya know what I think it is the transformer. It's not a brand new one as it is, I got it off my friend after he just took his neons off, and I figured since it was working a little bit it must be good. Well I'm going with getting another brand new one because I just don't know what else it could be. I really don't feel like buying another stupid thing though!

now im kinda worried, my front tube is cracked, are the LED undercar kits as susceptable to moisture as the neons?????

Less, I would think... but the wiring is still possibly susceptable.

Make sure that the power wires to and from the transformer are not shorting on the body. If you drilled any holes through metal and didn't protect the wires from sharp edges, it will eventually short.

I would take the whole setup out and bench test it.

Alright we'll check all that out. I'm going to get a new transformer and swap that in. If that doesn't work, then I'll have to try taking the whole setup off and redoing it I guess

This may be a stupid question.. if it is.. sorry but what if there's moisture in the tubes? The connections have all been redone. I never got around to buying another new transformer yet because unfortunatley I blew my transmission so my neons became the least of my worries! Now trying to put the car all back together I come back to my neon problem . I just don't want to buy a new transformer for no reason. And if it is shorting because of the moisture in the neon tubes.. are they trashed? Or do I have any kind of warranty on that since they're the Street Glow?

all street glow gold series have lifetime warrenty ..... usually theres no charge to exchange it...some places charge u like 5$ to ship it back to street glow just depends on ur shop

Ok.. well I know about the lifetime warranty. I just thought that the warranty only applied to the bulbs. If the actual neon bulb breaks you can get a free replacement. I know it doesn't apply to the outer casing so I figured it wouldn't apply to something like moisture getting in. Does anyone know any more about this?

as long as theres no cracks in it they will.... one of my buddies had his replaced it got wet and shorted out... seems that the end of the tube leaked

O ok, great. Then I'll just get that one replaced I guess. Lol hopefully that solves the problem.. if not they're def. coming off and I'm starting from the beginning!
