Hey guys I need some help getting my brothers car running right. To make a long story short, he bought a 91 talon tsi awd not knowing that the axle bracket bolts were snapped off inside the block. I ended up pulling the motor to extract the bolts. I replaced the intake manifold gasket because there was a huge vacuum leak. I dropped the motor back in and ran into a few problems.

The CEL is on only at idle, when you give it throttle it turns off. Anyone have this same problem? How did you fix it? I am not around the car. I'm away at school.
My brother bought a datalogger, but cannot seem to get the thing to work. First the software sent by pocketlogger was faulty, now he got the software working, but the palm keeps telling him to check the connection. He followed vfaq for the installation of the logger cable.

The temp gauge does not work since I reinstalled everything. I took the car to autozone, the guy there said he knew a bit about dsms, he looked at the car and said it had a 2g thermostat housing, and the person bent these pins to fit this female connector on (attached pictures). It looks like the part being pointed to has been replaced, there is some sort of sealant around it, the grey stuff. Is this a 2g housing? I dont understand why it is not working now, because it was working before.

The car stutters around mid range rpms. The only thing I touched were spark plugs, wires, and the coilpack(which was swapped onto another IM). I gapped and put new plugs in, that did not fix it. The car did not do this before I pulled the motor. I did a boost leak test, it seems the only place there is a leak is the throttle body seals, which explains why I need the BISS screw all the way in to get the car to idle correctly.

Sorry for the long post. I just want to get this car running right already.
Thanks in advance.

Ok I moved the female connector from to the sensor I never noticed, the temp gauge is now working, finally! What a pain to do with just pictures.

I have figured out the problem finally, If you refer to post 11, letter A is the A/C temp sender and letter B is the ECU temp sender. On my housing, the sensors are all switched around. My top sensor is NOT the A/C sensor, my A/C sensor is the sensor with the 2 male prongs bent like a V. Where my A/C sensor should be, is where the ECU temp sender is. Referring to the picture, my B is in spot A. My thermovalve is in spot B. My A/C sensor is in spot C. My gauge sender is in a spot you cannot see. Now that it has been fixed, we can move on to the other problems.

I'm glad you got everything figured out....Like you said, it's a pain to try and direct people using only pictures :)

Now that you've got this part fixed, I wonder what's going to break next.............. LOL

I guess that would be me buying the beer!! I am the "infamous" brother who owns the car and I just want to thank you all for your help!! Without your help I would have never noticed that other sensor. Thank you ALL!!

Claire, John, and Damien thank you all for your help.
Damien, it looks like I will not be needing that thermostat housing you have, thanks anyways though, I appreciate the offer.

Don't get too excited yet guys/girls, I still have more problems to fix once the logger is working. Be prepared...ROFL

Haha. I'll break out the Chilton's, charge the camera batteries, and get ready to use some frequent flyer miles if necessary ;)

The resistance readings of the coil pack's primary and secondary coils are perfect, so we can rule that out.
I plan on replacing the throttle body seals over spring break.
The datalogger cable is bad, my brother is currently trying to take care of that situation.

Drop off a 6 bolt block for me on your way over there. :D

We are still trying to get the datalogger to work. MY brother has tested everything the guy at pocketlogger told him to test, including pulling the ECU to check for leaky capacitors. There were no leaky capacitors, but we did find a Eprom ECU. :D
So the only thing left is the datalogging cable, hopefully a new one will solve the problem. Is there any way of checking to see if the dataport by the fusebox is working correctly?

hey bro i dont know if any has told you yet but that yellow thing with the two vacuum lines coming out of it is your ported vacuum switch part number md103867 threw a chrysler dealer. thought i would let you know your car is federally emissioned had that one broke on my 90 rst.

The reason the datalogger was not working was in-fact a faulty logger cable. The CEL reads the TPS. My brother will post some logs soon to help decipher the stuttering problem and should have more information on the TPS.

The TPS was reading 0% at closed throttle and only reading 90% at WOT so we adjusted it the best we could. As we turned the TPS up from 0% the CEL turned off once it hit 3%. So we left it there, now it reads 3% at closed throttle and 97% at WOT. What is the proper setting it should be at? I think to get 100% WOT we had it at like 4 or 5% at closed throttle. After the CEL turned off, we took it for a spin and the stuttering problem was gone. Problem fixed. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks for all your help everyone.
